SOMETIMES HEALING LOOKS LIKE FRIES, CHICKEN & SODA.
Some of our Kara Ambassadors decided to give our Warriors a special treat, fries, chicken and soda! And goodness, what a treat it was!
For someone new to Kara, this may simply look like children enjoying a special meal.
But for us, it means so much more.
Some children who experience sexual abuse are first groomed with things they love or cannot ordinarily afford, special meals, treats, gifts and promises. Tragically, something as innocent as chicken and fries can become connected to a painful memory.
So when we see our Warriors sitting together, laughing, eating and genuinely enjoying this meal, we see something deeper.
We see healing.
The food comes with no strings attached.
No expectation.
No manipulation.
No price to pay.
Just children being children and enjoying a treat because they deserve to be loved without being exploited.
And perhaps the greater miracle is watching a child encounter something that could once have been a reminder of trauma and discover that it no longer has to own that meaning.
This time, the meal means joy.
This time, it means safety.
This time, it is simply a treat.
To our wonderful Kara Ambassadors who made this possible, thank you. Thank you for understanding that sometimes the seemingly little things become part of rebuilding a childhood.
At Kara, we don't only want our Warriors to survive what happened to them.
We want them to reclaim the ordinary joys of childhood, freely, safely and without fear.
