Scouting is ALSO about serving the community.
Last Saturday night, our older scouts helped out at
the jointly-hosted (Berman Hebrew Academy/ Kehilat Pardes - The Rock Creek Synagogue) annual Havdalah in Pajamas celebration!

Our wolves, bears, and AOLs assisted with setup and cleanup, and ran three stations for the program!

Scouting is all about learning and today, we had a special STEM-themed meeting. We studied how air can be used to propel objects, creating balloon-fueled cars and racing ping-pong balls by blowing at them with straws. We learned all about static electricity, making aluminum foil dance and lifting salt and pepper without touching them, plus a special demonstration of a Van De Graff generator. We tested how an egg will float or sink in different kinds of water, and learned how oil and water don't mix (and what happens when you try). We also got to make our own kid friendly circuits! The scouts had a great time testing their gizmos and gadgets - and of course, playing with all the leftover balloons!

We had a great meeting today where our cubs learned about CITIZENSHIP.
For our Lion and Tiger scouts, that meant learning about their roles in their families, the importance of rules, and the value in teamwork.
For our Wolf Scouts, it was learning about caring for the American flag, and about being citizens of a community, including building a mock-neighborhood.
Our Bear scouts focused on national citizenship, learning about different symbols of America, crafting their very own Statue of Liberty Torches, and finding out about how non-profits help the community.
Our AOL Scout came up with a plan for an upcoming service project including games for preschool age children.

Finally All of our scouts also learned about the value of showing gratitude to those who keep our community safe, writing Thank You cards to our local firefighters, which we will deliver in a few weeks just in time for the holidays.

We had a great meeting on Sunday, where we learned about what's important to keep ourselves healthy - practicing exercise and being physically active; the importance of good nutrition; and hygene with hand washing and tooth brushing!

We also celebrated some of our cubs accomplishments, with our youngest and newest cubs - Tigers and Lions - receiving their Bobcat adventures!
And all of the scouts present earned their personal fitness adventures!

We had a wonderful pack meeting in the sukkah today!
We started out breaking into our new dens, meeting our new den mates, and creating our very own den flags.

Then we shared a snack underneath the Kehilat Pardes קהילת פרדס Sukkah.

Then, some basic scout skills - our youngest scouts learned about the scout sign, and the importance of being helpful, friendly, and trustworthy. They practiced with a game of scout-sign simon says.

Our older scouts learned the scout oath and scout law, and even worked on their den codes of conduct.

We had an amazing time today at the Dinosaur Park in Laurel, Maryland. Our cubs learned about some of the amazing creatures that roamed this area and turned into fossils - and then got to search for fossils themselves! The scouts even got to keep some fossilized plants, and at least one of our scouts will have their name attached to a fossilized mussel that she found! Our scouts really dug it today!

We are so grateful to the park for hosting Scout Day on a Sunday for our Pack!

Thanks to everyone who made today’s open house/raingutter regatta a huge success! I was so busy, i only got a few photos - will post later.

Shout outs to:
Scout Troops 613 and 614 for lending us some older scouts to help with setting up our campfire so we could have delicious roasted marshmallows.
NCAC - White Oak District for making an appearance
And, to all our current scout families for spreading the word.

It was wonderful chatting with all of the families interested in Cub scouting and our pack. Looking forward to a great year!

Pack 6134 just had a wonderful Labor-Day Weekend Campout. It was just one night, but we managed to pack in a lot of fun! Our cubs set up the campsite, went on a hike (where we discovered a full-size hornet's nest), learned the difference between tinder, kindling and fuel, and gathered a lot of firewood - enough to last through dinner and a campfire of smores, songs and skits.
We closed last night with scout vespers and taps.
This morning, our cubs learned how to do the square not, we explored the Ranger Station, and our cubs even earned a Junior Ranger badge from the rangers office!
Thanks to National Park Service for having such an amazing campgrounds in Greenbelt, MD, and for accomodating our young scouts!
