American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology www.asbmb.org | The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is an international nonprofit scientific and educational organization.

ASBMB drives discovery forward in academic, industry and governmental sectors, helping to generate new scientific knowledge today that fuels tomorrow’s biotechnological and medical breakthroughs. With about 12,000 members, made up of students, researchers, educators and industry professionals, the ASBMB is one of the largest molecular life science societies in the world. Founded in 1906, the ASBMB

’s mission is to advance the science of biochemistry and molecular biology and to promote the understanding of the molecular nature of life processes. The society serves the scientific community through:
• Publication of scientific and educational journals.
• Organization of scientific meetings.
• Advocacy for funding of basic research and education.
• Support of career development and science education at all levels.
• Promoting the diversity of individuals entering the scientific workforce.

Melanie McReynolds studies how metabolism shapes aging, focusing on NAD⁺ and its role in energy production, cellular communication and age-related disease. Her research examines how metabolic pathways change across the lifespan to influence health and aging.

At Penn State University, she leads a lab using isotope tracing and multiomics to study metabolic change over time. She is also committed to mentorship and expanding access to STEM, supporting students from under-resourced communities and training the next generation of scientists.
