The Montgomery County Camera Club of Maryland (MoCo Camera Club) is a photography membership club that is designed for photographers of all skill levels (amateurs to professionals) to come together to learn, share, discuss, develop and advance in all areas of photography. Club activities will consist of meetings and field trips with guest speakers, photo shoots, instructional workshops and partici

Presentation:
The impacts of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on or versus Photography have emerged as among the hottest and most controversial topics of today. Rick Hulbert’s presentation takes a relatively quick look at both the upsides and downsides of AI technology from a photographer’s perspective as well as from a beholder’s or viewer’s impression.

Rick’s 90-minute presentation will provide a taste of his evolving thoughts on AI’s impact on the art of photography.

The following opinion highlights the controversy. Antti Karppinen writes, “It’s a blessing and a curse in one nifty package.”

Bio:
Rick Hulbert’s internationally awarded photography is informed from his 4-decade background as a Professional Architect and Urban Designer. He is an Elected Member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, and a “Fellow" of The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.

Rick has served as an instructor of photography at Simon Fraser University and has lectured and taught at Langara College and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. He has also led multi-day photo-workshops throughout Europe and North America.

Reflective objects can be intimidating to photograph, but with the right approach, they become powerful creative tools. Chris Paulis will break down how to successfully photograph challenging subjects such as glass, metal and other highly reflective surfaces.

Chris will share practical tips, real world examples, and problem-solving techniques for product photography. He will also focus on understanding light, controlling reflections, and using simple, effective setups to create polished and professional results.

Chris Paulis is a highly accomplished commercial photographer. His work reflects decades of experience, craftsmanship, and an unwavering dedication to excellence. Chris’s passions include photographic restoration, wildlife, landscape, product and commercial photography.

Chris has a true heart for education and shares his time and knowledge with the photographic community. In a whirlwind hour, learn the difference between Hunting and Fishing, see how historical photographic figures have approached the street, discover what makes a good street photo, strap on your courage, and hopefully gain some inspiration to get out yourself this weekend to shoot your world.

Bio
A lifelong educator, Dave Mullen spent over 40 years in the DC/Maryland area teaching and photographing. He is the founder of the Nora School Photography Festival for high school students and has exhibited widely in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. His work has been published in CameraArts, ArtDoc, Shots, and in three Lenswork books.

He has taught at the Washington School of Photography, Montgomery College, and Johns Hopkins University, and has presented at and judged numerous camera club events. Now living and photographing on Cape Cod, he currently teaches at the Cape Cod Art Center, the Capital Photography Center (DC), and Cape Cod Community College. He also consults with educational institutions on mindfulness practices, family systems theory, and organizational anxiety.

Marc Muench will share what photographic tools have inspired him to continue creating unique landscape photography images in locations worldwide.

Marc will discuss why he uses high-quality medium format cameras for some work and an iPhone for others. He will also describe how using infrared to capture a different spectrum of light has motivated him to see compositions in different ways and how his drone has created a new world of compositions.

Bio:
Marc Muench is an internationally renowned landscape and wildlife photographer with 11 book titles to his name, ESPN outdoor shows and numerous magazines, calendars, and poster titles to his credit.

Marc is a third-generation landscape photographer following in the family tradition started by his grandfather, Josef Muench, and then his father, David Muench. In May of 2016, Marc was designated a Hasselblad Ambassador.

In this presentation, Frank Van Riper will discuss his 7th book, The Green Heart of Italy: Umbria and its Ancient Neighbors and how to produce a bestselling photo book.

Frank will also share his decades of experience in documentary street photography and off-camera lighting.

Bio:
Frank Van Riper was a member of the New York Daily News Washington Bureau for 20 years, serving as White House correspondent, national political correspondent and
Washington Bureau news editor. In 1992, Van Riper became photography columnist of the Washington Post, where his column, “Talking Photography,” appeared in the Camera
Works section of the newspaper and is currently online.

Van Riper is on the faculty of PhotoWorks at Glen Echo Park in Maryland, and has lectured and taught in the Smithsonian Resident Associate Program.

Frank’s photography is in the permanent collections of the National Portrait Gallery (Washington, DC), the Portland Gallery of Art (Portland, Maine) and has been selected for the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington.
