Rainbow serves an average of 95 women each season, most of whom come from all over Montgomery County.

The mission of Rainbow Place is to provide women emergency overnight shelter during the hypothermia season and assist them as they transition to a better quality of life. The majority of the women are newly experiencing homelessness within the past 12 months; some have been experiencing homelessness for many years. While many are employed or receive public assistance, all of Rainbow's women are considered to be at the lowest level of poverty, unable to afford a modest apartment for themselves or for their family. Rainbow Place serves as a gateway into the Continuum of Care for the homeless in the County and partners with numerous agencies to meet the needs of the women who are served at the shelter. Our all part-time staff are mostly seasonal and appreciate the many committed volunteers who help with a variety of tasks. Volunteers are vital to ensure Rainbow Place can operate on its modest budget. We rely on churches, organizations, schools and individuals of all ages to support evening and daytime volunteer needs both on and off-site. We are currently working to expand our services to provide a safe haven for youth (18-24 years of age) experiencing homelessness in Montgomery County, Maryland inclusive of LGBTQ+, heterosexual, and cisgender individuals. Rainbow will provide year-round, 24-hour emergency shelter and support, offering a comprehensive set of services to facilitate their transition out of homelessness.

What a FANTASTIC crew of volunteers we had this morning! We were able to move so much more than we expected. It was great!

More great news! Last week IMC Construction, Inc., of Malvern, Pennsylvania, held a grand opening celebration at their new Bethesda office. Well, they really know how to show they are committed to their community. They made donations to organizations doing meaningful work in the communities they now serve, including Rainbow Place Shelter!

We are so grateful to IMC and wish them all the best in their local endeavors. Welcome to the neighborhood!!

WOW! You all are AMAZING!! You've made magic happen again!

Remember the Target Circle program, the one where we asked you to vote for us even though we weren't listed as a nonprofit in our immediate area? Well, apparently enough of you went through all the steps of changing your store and voting because we received 51,602 votes, resulting in a grant of $4,282.64!!

Thank you for all your help! We couldn't ask for better friends!

It took us a little while to compile our favorite photos from last Friday's "NOT a Gala!," but we are ready to share them with you now!

So, this event was an experiment. We weren't sure if people would come out to such an unusual event, but as it turns out LOTS of people like NOT getting dressed up. They also like trying a variety of activities. They must, because our "NOT a Gala!" raised over $35,000!!!

We are beyond grateful to the Whalen Family of Rockville for donating a condo in the center of Rockville to Rainbow Place. At a time of major expansion to serve young adults and the literal movement of our Women's Shelter, having a fixed, permanent address for our shelter administration is truly a priceless gift.
