Medicine can be isolating. The demands of practice, evolving regulations, and the weight of patient care often leave physicians navigating challenges without a trusted colleague to turn to.

That's why MCMS launched the Physician Peer Partners program — a mentorship initiative that connects Montgomery County physicians across career stages, specialties, and practice settings. Whether you're a new physician seeking guidance or an experienced clinician ready to give back, the program offers a structured path to collegial support built on shared professional values: unity, collaboration, advocacy, and service.

Through the Physician Peer Partners program, MCMS members gain access to a trusted peer relationship that can help navigate the complexities of modern practice. It's one of the ways our 1,600+ member community becomes more than a network — it becomes a resource you can count on.

June is Men's Health Month and if you're a physician, you already know what that gap looks like in practice.

Men are far less likely to have a regular doctor or schedule preventive visits. The reasons vary: time, discomfort, the feeling that "it's not that serious." But the conditions most likely to shorten men's lives — heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, certain cancers — respond much better to early intervention than to crisis management.

MCMS physicians see this every day. Closing the gap starts with primary care. It starts with having the conversation. And sometimes, it starts with someone in a man's life saying, "just go get it checked."

Do you have a patient, family member, or friend who's been putting off a doctor's visit? This month is a good reminder that preventive care isn't just for people who feel sick.

Today is National Senior Health and Fitness Day, and Montgomery County has plenty of reason to pay attention.

This is one of the most active senior communities in the state. Older adults here are running 5Ks, teaching yoga classes, managing practices, and raising grandchildren. Physical activity is already part of many of their lives. But for patients dealing with new diagnoses, mobility challenges, or the fatigue that comes with chronic disease management, getting moving can feel more complicated than it sounds.

MCMS physicians work with older patients every day to find approaches to fitness and wellness that actually fit their circumstances: their schedules, their conditions, their neighborhoods.

If you have a patient or family member who's been told to "get more exercise" but isn't sure where to start, their primary care physician is the right first call.

Happy National Senior Health and Fitness Day. What fitness habits have your older patients found most sustainable?

Tacos and professional networking — a combination that works.

MCMS is hosting a casual after-work social on Thursday, June 11 at Gringos & Mariachis in Potomac, and there's no better way to wrap up a long week of patient care than with good food and familiar faces.

This isn't a formal event. No keynote. No slides. Just drinks and tapas from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at a spot that makes the whole thing feel easy.

For physicians who are newer to the area or looking to expand their referral network, these informal gatherings are genuinely valuable. You'll meet colleagues across specialties, catch up on what's happening in the local health system, and maybe find a trusted specialist for that patient you've been thinking about.

RSVP at the link below. We hope to see you there.

Today we remember the ones who didn't come home.

Memorial Day is about loss. It's also about the obligation that loss creates, to take care of those who served and those who carry grief. In Montgomery County, thousands of veterans live among us, many managing PTSD, chronic pain, traumatic brain injury, or mental health challenges that go unaddressed for years.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Today feels like the right moment to remind everyone that asking for help is not weakness. It's the brave thing. It's what you deserve.

The physicians of MCMS are here for every member of this community, especially those who served. If you or someone you love is struggling, please reach out to your physician. You don't have to manage it alone.

To every Gold Star family in Montgomery County: your loss is not forgotten.

Today's the day.

The MCMS Physician Listening Session is tonight — Tuesday, May 19 — from 7:00 to 8:30 PM on Zoom. If you are a physician practicing in Montgomery County, this is your open invitation to show up, speak candidly, and be heard.

No agenda. No formal presentations. Just MCMS leadership and member physicians talking about what is actually happening in practice — the burdens, the barriers, the things that need to change.

Whether it is prior authorization delays, public health pressures, scope of practice issues, or something you have been sitting on for months, this is the space for it.

Join us tonight: https://montgomerymedicine.org/events/listening-session-may-19/

What's the one thing you'd tell MCMS leadership if you had the mic? Drop it in the comments.
