CET Laptop Pledge
Friends, Colleagues & Supporters,
As you all know, Covid-19 situation has forced significant changes. College of Engineering, Trivandrum (CET), the premier institution for Engineering Education in the State of Kerala, was quick to adapt to the situation, and implemented an online mode of education, so as to minimise the risk and spread of Covid-19 virus on campus. As we try to implement these changes, it is necessary for us to be inclusive and accomodative towards all the students. Our students come from diverse backgrounds, and many do not have the financial resources to have laptops of their own or even afford a sufficient enough data plan that gives them the ability to stay connected online for a full day of classes. CET, being an institution under the Government of Kerala, which admits students purely on the basis of merit, has a large number of brilliant students from economically weaker backgrounds.

The College campus has been closed for student since March 10th 2020, and we conducted the rest of the last semester classes online, and these issues have adversely affected a portion of the student population. The upcoming semester, commencing on August 17th is also going to be conducted via online mode. These students, while academically strong, would be at a severe disadvantage compared to the rest of the student community.

Our staff advisors worked with the students from each batch, and identified 214 students who require financial aid to secure laptops and internet connections for continuing their education effectively. Since we do not have the resources to support all the students, we are turning to our alumni and well wishers, for help. The estimated expense for providing the facilities is expected to be approximately Rs. 40,000/- per student, bringing the total aid required to Rs. 8,560,000/- (approx. USD $115,000).

The College Administration in collaboration with the College of Engineering Trivandrum Alumni Association (CETAA) kindly requests all alumni batches and Chapters to join us in the venture for supporting our brightest students during this pandemic period. If you have relationships with companies that are willing and able to donate laptops and data plans in bulk, those would also be deeply appreciated. Please treat this with utmost urgency, and help get this message to as many people as possible, so that we can procure these resources quickly. No donation is too small, together, we can make a difference.
