German Wine Society - Washington DC

The German Wine Society and International Club of DC jointly hosted a Spring Gala at the German Embassy’s Embassy House on the evening of May 29, 2026. Appetizers, a tasty buffet dinner including white asparagus and ham, and desserts were provided by Chef Mikko. Guests enjoyed tasting ten German wines selected by the German Wine Society. Weather was beautiful and added to a highly enjoyable evening.

The German Wine Society’s Capital Chapter had a very enjoyable and educational tasting on May 2, 2026, presented by Annette Schiller. We compared twelve wines from Germany and Burgundy, six each from the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, ranging from the regional through village levels and up to the premier cru level. Wines from both regions came off very well!

The German Wine Society held a very enjoyable tasting of twelve German wines, focusing on the 2024 vintage, on March 27, 2026. Phil Bernstein of MacArthur Beverages delivered a very well informed presentation.

The German Wine Society’s Capital Chapter held its annual Holiday Dinner in the elegant setting of the Cosmos Club in Washington DC on December 12, 2025, with 55 members and guests attending. Participants enjoyed a three course dinner plus hors d’oeuvres, and tasted seven German wines plus two New York Rieslings. Guests were entertained by a musical trio performing German and American holiday songs.

On October 11, the German Wine Society Capital Chapter held its annual Oktober Weinfest in King Farm, Rockville, MD. Many new people came, including several from Germany, and guests enjoyed twelve excellent German wines and a very tasty buffet of German treats, including delicious homemade Zweibelkuchen (onion tart), Obatzda (beer cheese dip) and apple strudel. With German music playing, and lively conversations and good company, everyone had a wonderful time!
