Mid-Atlantic DOGS Search & Rescue

Mid-Atlantic DOGS Search & Rescue Since 1990, providing highly skilled search and rescue dog teams, at no charge, for our specialized services to official agencies. Serving the Mid-Atlantic USA.

Mid-Atlantic DOGS mission:

* To provide, as a benefit to the public, upon request of any official agency, dog and handler teams trained for search and rescue (SAR) of persons lost, trapped, incapacitated or drowned, day or night, under any and all conditions where dogs can efficiently operate.

* To provide continuing training and education for the dogs; their handlers and support personnel

; to improve and develop capabilities to ensure competent and capable search teams and operations.

* To promote greater appreciation of SAR resources. We do NOT chase bad guys, look for people with guns, respond to family requests (requests through law enforcement agencies only, please). We do NOT search for missing pets! NOTE: Search operations are law enforcement investigations which can result in criminal investigations and prosecution . Since posts to social media, including this site, could result in unauthorized release of information, it is the policy of Mid-Atlantic DOGS to not post any search related information with the exception of links to official news reports.

Today we trained at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Academy. We want to thank you Sgt Steven Wells, Michael Gruber, with Montgomery County K-9 unit, and Steven Breinich from MD task force 1 for their assistance today! A day full of new scenarios and challenges. Our K9s appreciated the new environment. We got a lot done! Better teams ahead because of today. Thank you!

We want to thank you Montgomery County officers John Greene and Mike Polcsa, and their colleagues from the Police Department’s Crime Lab, Amanda Flimlin and Marissa Venezia for a very interesting and instrumental presentation about Crime Scene Preservation and Documentation. We learned so much about how much work and processing goes into maintaining the integrity of the evidence collected in a crime scene. Afterwards we did some dog demos and, frankly, everybody enjoyed the amazing weather we got today!

Lithicum S.A.R.A. April 26th combined training, in part to prepare for the IPWDA K9 Light Disaster Certification Evaluation coming in July. Challenging our dogs and handlers to always think out of the box … somehow our dogs are always ahead of the game, and we must follow! … and of course, the puppies ALWAYS steal the show!

Congratulations MA/D 116 Michaela & K9 Dragon. April 18th, they successfully completed their 20/20 Map & Compass Assessment! Awesome job.
Part I of this in-house assessment, the handler demonstrates their navigation skills in 20 acres of woods with light to moderate ground vegetation using map and compass - pace count, dead reckoning, terrain identification, etc. Part 2: the handler must effectively and efficiently search the 20 acres with their dog to locate one subject. The dog must actively hunt, make a self-directed find and communicate to its handler the location of the subject. Job well done by both Michaela and Dragon!
