📣 IAFF ADVOCATES FOR OUR PFANJ BROTHER 📣
We don't back down when one of our own is targeted.

⬇️ Recently, Newark Fire Officer's Union IAFF Local 1860 President Thomas Shea was demoted from Battalion Chief to Captain in retaliation for simply doing his job and fighting fiercely for his members as union president.

💪 This morning, at the 58th International Association of Fire Fighters Convention, PFANJ President Matthew Caliente took a point of personal privilege to address this injustice on the convention floor. In a powerful display of union strength, New Jersey delegates rose in solidarity with Brother Shea. This action received unwavering support of the entire IAFF delegation with the strength of over 365,000 members across the United States and Canada.

🫵 When you attack our union leaders for defending their members, you attack us all. An injury to one is an injury to all that will be met with the power of the entire IAFF and its Guardian Policy.

Members of IAFF Local 1664 and 2000 union leaders are in Arlington, TX for the 58th IAFF Convention, where the business of our International is conducted and decisions are made that help shape the future of our union and the fire service.

We also had the honor of remembering our fallen brothers and sisters, including our own Lt. Chris Higgins. We’re proud to represent Local 1664 and ensure those who came before us are never forgotten.

🚨 THIS WEEK, EVERY 50/50 TICKET HELPS LT. CHRIS HIGGINS’ SHIFT 🚨

Lt. Chris Higgins served as a career firefighter with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service and as a volunteer firefighter in Anne Arundel County.

His name will soon be added to the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial in Colorado Springs, and we want the firefighters who served beside him to be there when he is honored.

Now through August 9, the Anne Arundel Firefighters Emerald Society is donating all of our proceeds from Maryland Firefighter 50/50 ticket sales to help members of Chris’s shift make that trip.

Your ticket gives you a chance to win while directly helping them be there for Chris.

☘️ Guaranteed $100,000 or more monthly pot
☘️ Main drawing August 15

Local 1664 Health and Safety Committee August Reminder

The new particulate blocking hoods are an important upgrade to our protective gear (MEMBERS - get yours at property!) but they’re only one layer of protection. Our priority must be avoiding exposure in the first place: wear your SCBA properly and stay on air whenever toxic products of combustion are present, especially during electric vehicle fires. Protect your lungs, wear your PPE correctly, and don’t breathe what can hurt or kill you.

Comments were recently made about Montgomery County firefighters engaging in operations with federal agencies last week in Potomac. Let us be clear, when someone needs help, politics don’t matter. Montgomery County firefighters answer every call with the same compassion, dignity, and professionalism regardless of a person’s beliefs, background, or whom they support. IAFF Local 1664 will always defend the integrity of our members and the trust they’ve earned from this community. Helping people is, and always will be, our highest priority.
