IAFF Local 1664 Montgomery County Career Fire Fighters

On February 15th 2026, Montgomery County resident and local real estate agent Barbara Nalls Realtor returned home from showing houses to find her home filled with thick black smoke. Within minutes of her 911 call, firefighters responded ultimately rescuing her dog and cat and extinguishing the fire.

The months that followed were anything but easy as Barbara faced a long road to restoring her home.

In October, eight months after the fire, Barbara reached out to us wanting to express her gratitude for the response. What initially seemed like a simple thank you soon turned into something much bigger, with Barbara deciding to host a fundraiser benefiting the Montgomery County Career Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation, our charitable organization dedicated to supporting Montgomery County firefighters during times of hardship.

One of the highlights of the day was Barbara having the opportunity to meet the officer from Station 10 who was aboard the first fire truck to arrive at her home that day!

We cannot thank Barbara enough for her generosity!! It is gestures like Barbara’s that remind us just how meaningful the work of our firefighters is to the people and communities we serve.

As we continue to remember Chris and his passing from Cancer his passion and dedication to the job reminds us how important it is protect ourselves from the dangers of the job. It is with deep sorrow that I share the news of the passing of Brother Kindel, who fought a courageous battle with cancer. His strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit were an inspiration to all who knew him.

Brother Kindel was a dedicated member of our IAFF Local 1664 family, and his loss will be felt deeply across our union and community. As we mourn his passing, let us also honor his life, his service, and the legacy he leaves behind.

What a night celebrating 60 years of IAFF Local 1664!

Over 200 members, retirees, and guests came together to celebrate our history, honor many of our retirees, and enjoy a well-deserved night together.

We proudly recognized 35 retirees for their years of service and dedication, along with this year’s award winners:

New this year, special awards were given out to members for the continued hard work on a daily basis.
🏆 Firefighter of the Year: Seth Parks — Station 8, A Shift
🏆 Driver of the Year: Master Firefighter Jimmy Reising — Station 18, C Shift
🏆 Officer of the Year: Captain Scott Kitner — Station 15, A Shift
🏆 Shift of the Year: Station 15, A Shift

A special congratulations to Brother Brock Cline on being granted emeritus status and receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award! These honors recognize his lasting contributions and dedication to our union and its members.

Congratulations to all of our honorees! Your hard work, leadership, and commitment to each other and our community give us plenty to be proud of.

From catching up with old friends to dancing the night away, the room was filled with laughter, pride, and the sense of family that makes Local 1664 special. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this celebration such a great time.

Remembering our brother…

This weekend, members of IAFF Local 1664 traveled to Colorado Springs to honor one of our own, Lt. Chris Higgins, as his name is placed on the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial Wall.

There’s a bond in the fire service that’s hard to put into words, you might not understand unless you're part of it, but when we work together, eat together, laugh together, and stand beside each other during some of life’s toughest moments, we become family. Today, we show up for Chris, his family, friends, and each other to remember him.
