REMINDER. Safe Silver Spring online meeting tonight!

Neighbors,

Please join us for the October Quarterly online meeting of Safe Silver Spring. The Zoom will take place on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at 7:30 pm.

First, some information about recent changes in the MCPD leadership. As you may know, Marc Yamada, the former Montgomery County Chief of Police recently resigned, and Assistant Chief Darren Francke was appointed as the interim Police Chief by County Executive Marc Elrich.

Following that move, our friend and 3rd District Commander Jason Cokinos will become an Acting Assistant Chief in the Gaithersburg HQ and will leave the Silver Spring Third District. Lieutenant Doug Miller will become the Acting 3rd District Commander and he will be our guest for the October 21st meeting.

Please join us next Wednesday to welcome new Acting 3rd District Commander Doug Miller who will brief us on public safety developments in the 3rd district, which extends from Downtown Silver Spring to Burtonsville. He will answer any questions that we might have about policing in the greater Silver Spring area.

Community Policing in Montgomery County: We Want to Hear from You

Montgomery County Community Policing Bills 33-19 and 45-20 highlight important legislative findings, establish clear guidelines for community policing, and require the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) to publish annual statistical data reports. As part of Bill 45-20, MCPD also conducts a yearly anonymous survey of residents and officers to better understand police-community relations and gauge public trust in law enforcement.

The results of this survey, along with other required data, will be published in the Police Statistical Data Report in early 2027.

Your voice matters. MCPD invites you to participate in the 2026 Community Trust Survey to help us better serve our communities. The survey takes just 1–2 minutes to complete and is available in English, Spanish, and Chinese.
