Meet Callie Silverton, a recent graduate of Queen's University with a Master's of Anatomical Sciences:
Q: How do you incorporate anatomy into your work as an illustrator?
A: I'm both an anatomist and an illustrator by training, so there's a lot of overlap. I love to do figurative drawings of the human body, and I also bring my illustration background to my work in anatomy by making pieces like this one.

Gus spent roughly 67 million years becoming priceless. Then, in 10 short minutes, someone put an exact number on him: $50.13 million. The sale is easy to treat as another story about the strange things very wealthy people buy, but Gus is also scientific evidence. When that evidence can be bought and sold, access to it becomes part of the purchase. The question is no longer only what Gus is worth; it is whether pieces of the natural world that let us understand the past should be commodities at all, and what happens to science when they are.

Meet Dr. Sydney Greer, Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of Missouri - Kansas City!

Q: What is your teaching/research focus?
A: I am an assistant teaching professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences within the School of Medicine. I serve as an instructor of gross anatomy for dental hygiene, dental, medical, physician assistant, and anesthesiologist assistant students, along with my tremendous anatomist colleagues. As an anatomy educator, I work to incorporate active learning, demonstrations, and hands-on activities into my teaching. My research focuses on using biometric data from wearable devices to understand different aspects of high-stakes examination performance.

Q: What is your favorite anatomy fun fact?
A: When the alveoli of the human lungs are laid out flat, their total surface area is approximately the size of a tennis court.

Q: What is your favorite aspect of AAA?
A: AAA provides webinars on so many fascinating aspects of anatomical sciences, ethics, teaching, and research that have helped me stay open-minded and informed. Also, the people are amazing!

Dr. Fantauzzo has made a lasting impact on the field of craniofacial biology with a long history of service within her institution and the broader community. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Department of Craniofacial, Oral and Materials Sciences at her home institution. She mentors PhD graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and dental students in her lab and throughout the university. She is Co-Vice Chair of the 2027 Receptor Tyrosine Kinase Signaling Gordon conference and current Instructor of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory mouse course, serving as a leader for both the craniofacial and broader developmental biology community. She organizes grant workshops with junior colleagues and has often served as an ad hoc member on NIH study sections.
