Members will remember her uplifting and energetic presentation in February on Vision Boards and this summer we were honored to have her as judge for RAL’s IF WALLS COULD TALK exhibit to celebrate Glenview’s centennial. We are delighted to welcome back Teresa Jade Jarzynski to discuss "Some Painters to Know" this Thursday, October 22 at 7:00pm.

Overview: "In this presentation I will be sharing painters whose work I find exceptional, and worth becoming familiar with if you aren’t already.
While pursuing my Fine Arts degree, I was constantly being exposed to a wide assortment of painters and fell in love with discovering the work of others. There is so much to be gained in seeing the many ways a painting can be approached, and not as a way to replicate, but as a way to deepen the understanding of your own work.
I think of the artists I lean into as my personal collection, and in this presentation I am excited to have the opportunity to share some of my favorites with you. Some are well known, some I know personally, and some are ones I’ve found through social media. Their work is unique and holds much potential for personal inspiration."

About the exhibit: The Washington Calligraphers Guild (WCG) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization dedicated to helping enthusiasts of all skill levels improve their calligraphy and develop their artistry. Founded in 1976 by acclaimed calligrapher Sheila Waters alongside her colleagues and students, our mission is to increase public awareness and appreciation of calligraphy and the related arts, to pass on the knowledge of historical hands and to guide students in creative techniques. 2026 marks the WCG 50th Anniversary and we are delighted to have our anniversary exhibition at the Glenview Mansion.

Glenview Mansion Art Gallery is located at 603 Edmonston Dr. at the Rockville Civic Center. Open weekdays, Monday – Friday, 9:00am-4:30pm. Please check the Glenview Mansion website https://www.rockvillemd.gov/389/Glenview-Mansion before coming out or call 240-314-8660. Plenty of parking and there is an elevator to all levels of the gallery. The gallery is located on the 2nd floor. It is quiet and uncrowded during the week. Meet the Artists this Sunday, Sept. 27, 1:30-3:30 pm.
Please join us to meet these artists and enjoy this impressive exhibit.

Through a variety of printmaking techniques, paintings, and mixed media, Montpelier Printmakers David Brosch, Julie Polt, Sarah Presley, Sharon Sefton, Michael G. Stewart present their personal perspectives that inspire appreciation, contemplation, and conversation.
From the view outside their windows at home to forest trails, distant travels, and time spent in the printmaking studio or at the plein air easel, the world around them continually inspires their art. Interactions with family, friends, and community also influence how they see and interpret the world.
As artists, they transform these observations into visual expressions that celebrate beauty while exploring social, environmental, and cultural themes. The World As We View It celebrates humanity’s relationship with both the natural and built environments while inviting viewers to reflect on the challenges that shape those relationships.

September 16, Dr. Irina Stotland on MARY CASSATT

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Sept. 16 for our first meeting of the year to hear Dr. Stotland’s discussion on Mary Cassatt, her life and paintings.

She selected paintings of women with agency, depicting them in moments of intense concentration, whether observing others, reading newspapers in solitude, or caring for children, and recast scenes of women’s daily lives as modern and significant. Rather than portraying them as passive objects of male admiration, Cassatt highlights their active participation in life.
What were the people looking at at the opera? Hint: not the performers.
You may have seen some or many of these before but looking them together with Dr. Stotland’s observations, pointing at details and comparing them to Degas’ or Renoir’s work gave them new interest.

A BIG THANK YOU to Dr. Irina Stotland for this fascinating lecture and sharing her expertise about this important and beloved artist.

We are delighted and honored to welcome back Dr. Stotland to kick off our RAL speaker series once again! Members will remember her in depth and fascinating presentations on a variety of famous artists from Bonnard to Bosch, Velasquez, Toulouse-Lautrec, Gauguin, Mary Cassatt, The Secrets of Johannes Vermeer, the Ukrainian Avant-Garde, the American art movement Abstract Expressionism, and the important artists of Romanticism last fall: Goya, Eugene Delacroix, J.M.W. Turner, John Constable and Theodore Gericault. This time she will discuss Mary Cassatt.

Overview: Mary Cassatt’s paintings focus on women with agency, depicting them in moments of intense concentration whether observing others, reading newspapers in solitude, or caring for children. Rather than portraying women as passive objects of male admiration, Cassatt highlights their active participation in life. Her work emphasizes the skill and patience required for domestic tasks while revealing the limiting mandatory domesticity of their lives. Japanese woodcuts and Edgar Degas’ innovations inform her bold outlines and flat colors and recast scenes of a woman’s daily life as modern and significant.

RAL’s IF WALLS COULD TALK is in its final week. So much beautiful work, so little time! BUT there IS still time to see it! And you should make time to go!
The exhibit is on display through the end of the day on Friday, August 28. The show remains up over the weekend for scheduled private events to enjoy.
Gallery hours: M-F, 9:00am-4:30pm weekdays. Plenty of parking.
This show was judged by Teresa Jade Jarzynski.

We thank all participating artists for sharing their unique artistry with the community in this important show.

Rockville Art League artists present the many aspects of the mansion’s interiors, exteriors, grounds, gardens and gatherings and accoutrements in their portrayal of something that is, was, or could have occurred at Glenview in the last 100 years to celebrate its centennial in this large multimedia exhibit.

Over 125 pieces in the 6 rooms of the gallery to enjoy.
