Cornerstone Montgomery

Cornerstone Montgomery We empower people living with mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders to live, work, and integrate successfully within the community.

Above all, we value respect for the people we serve. We stand beside the people we serve as allies in pursuit of their personal goals and as bearers of hope. In order to be effective allies, we value evidence-based services. We value a work environment of mutual trust and respect.

What happens when someone is given the opportunity, support, and encouragement to pursue their passion?

For Tomas, it meant turning a series of jobs into a career and a dream into a thriving business.

After discovering Cornerstone, Tomas connected with our Vocational Services team, who worked alongside him to explore his goals, strengthen his professional skills, and build a path toward meaningful employment. Today, he is the owner of a successful dog training business and was recently recognized as Bethesda's Top Dog Trainer.

His journey is a reminder that recovery and wellness are about more than managing challenges. They are about creating opportunities, building confidence, finding purpose, and living a life of your own choosing.

As we recognize Men's Health Month, we also recognize the strength it takes to seek support. Too often, men are told to carry life's challenges alone. Tomas's story shows what can happen when someone reaches out, accepts support, and invests in their future.

At Cornerstone, we are proud to walk beside individuals as they build stability, pursue meaningful work, and discover what is possible.

Because hope is more than a feeling. It's taking the next step and having someone there to walk with you.

Every young person deserves the opportunity to be seen for their potential, not defined by their past.

Through Cornerstone's Enhanced In-Home Support Program, youth and families receive support designed to strengthen relationships, build resilience, and create pathways toward stability. By meeting families where they are and addressing challenges before they become crises, we help young people discover what is possible for their future.

Gina's story is one example of how early intervention, consistent support, and compassionate care can change a life.

Because when we invest in young people, we do more than help them overcome challenges. We help them build confidence, find their voice, and imagine a future filled with possibility.

Read Gina's story and see how hope can grow when someone finally feels seen, heard, and supported.

Too often, we ask young people, "What's wrong with you?" when the better question is, "What happened to you?"

Gina's journey reminds us that behavior is often a reflection of experiences we cannot see. Behind every young person struggling with anxiety, trauma, or emotional challenges is someone hoping to be understood.

At Cornerstone, we believe healing begins when people are met with compassion, dignity, and support rather than judgment.

Today, we're sharing Gina's words. Tomorrow, we'll share her story and how hope, connection, and the right support helped her begin to envision a different future.

Stay tuned.

This month, we're raising awareness about the importance of men's physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Men are often less likely to seek preventive healthcare, discuss mental health concerns, or ask for support when they need it. Prioritizing health isn't just about annual checkups. It's about caring for your mind, body, and overall wellness every day.

Throughout June, we'll be sharing information, resources, and tips to help men take proactive steps toward healthier lives.

Your health matters. Your mental health matters. Taking care of yourself is one of the most important investments you can make.

Growth does not only happen in therapy sessions or classrooms. Sometimes it happens while exploring a new place, solving problems together, building confidence, and learning how to navigate the world with support beside you.

Our youth day program helps young people strengthen communication skills, build healthy relationships, increase independence, and create meaningful connections within their community. Through experiences like this scavenger hunt through Leonardtown, participants are learning that they are capable, supported, and never alone in their journey.

At Cornerstone, we believe healing and growth should meet young people where they are and help them discover where they can go next.

Because every step forward matters.

What happens after a young person experiences a mental health challenge can shape the course of their future.

In this clip, Alex Dudley, Director of our Transition-Aged Youth Programs, shares why early support, structure, and consistency matter so deeply for young adults navigating mental health challenges and the transition into independence.

At Cornerstone, we believe every young person deserves more than crisis intervention. They deserve the opportunity to build stability, confidence, meaningful connections, and a future filled with possibility.

Because behind every number is a young person learning to believe in what comes next.

Hope starts with support. And support changes lives.

"The work that you're supporting is so important... It's feeling more and more important every single year, the challenges our community is facing..."

Thank you to Councilmember Andrew Friedson for sharing his support for Cornerstone and recognizing the importance of accessible mental health and behavioral health care in Montgomery County and Southern Maryland.

At Cornerstone, we believe healing begins with community, compassion, and access to care. We are grateful for leaders who continue helping elevate conversations around mental health, recovery, and hope.
