The NNIA works to join the efforts and resources of Montgomery County and Prince George’s County faith communities to support the local immigrant community in all areas necessary for them to have a healthy and productive life in Maryland. Background

Since 2017, more than 20 Montgomery County faith communities have helped hundreds of immigrants, including refugees, asylum seekers and undocumented families and individuals. We originally provided this support to refugees in concert with other local faith communities coordinated through Montgomery County Interfaith Refugee Resettlement Neighbors (MCIRRN) with the Islamic Center of Maryland (ICM) leading the organization. MCIRRN is no longer active and several of the original interfaith community members have established a new organization to continue and expand this work
The new organization is the New Neighbors Interfaith Alliance (NNIA)

What a day! '

On Saturday, August 22, NNIA held its third annual Set Them Up for Success Volleyball Tournament and Family Fun Day at the Inter-denominational Church of God in Gaithersburg, welcoming 60+ players, a couple dozen volunteers, friends, supporters and New Neighbors to enjoy a day of community building, sports, and camaraderie.

Spirits were high -- and so was the level of volleyball -- as team members gave their all on the court, digging, diving, and having a blast playing the game they love. As the eight-team field played two sets of matches on the hour between 9 am and 3 pm, people streamed in and out of the gym, watching games, bidding on raffle baskets, taking their children for face painting and sand art, and visiting the food truck from Beltway Bistro.

At the end, Soul Collectors overcame a fierce challenge from OLVA Impact, winning the championship match in a tight two sets to one. But despite the stiff competition on the court, people walked away -- some with raffle baskets in their arms, others with duffle bags slung over their shoulders -- but all with a renewed sense of what can happen when the community comes together for a common purpose.

Thanks to all who contributed to the 2026 Set Them Up for Success Volleyball Tournament and Family Day, whether it was with your time, your financial generosity or, simply, your presence!

Wanna meet another team from tomorrow's Set Them Up for Success Volleyball Tournament and Family Fun Day? Meet Team OLVA Impact!

OLVA Impact is a team made up of coaches who have been together for countless years through Ofer Levy Volleyball Academy. We thrive in a competitive environment, with an emphasis on fun, teamwork, and growth. We know the game inside and out, so we always find a way to make any match enjoyable. Our players have spent a majority of their lives with a volleyball in their hands, so we’re excited to bring that experience, energy, and passion to the court. OLVA has brought us together through volleyball for many years and will continue to for many more, so we wanted to take that same passion and spirit beyond work and use it to support a great cause.

See you on the court, OLVA Impact!

With less than 48 hours before the start of the Set Them Up for Success Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, August 22, our teams are getting ready to play. Meet Team Scrappy, one of only two teams that have been with us since 2024 and the only all-female team in the tournament.

• How long we’ve played together: Anywhere between 1 and 10 years
• Style of play: Fun, silly & competitive
• What we do best: Being Scrappy!
• Watch out for: Our loud ACE cheers and an occasional block
• One fun fact about us: We don't like change
• What inspired us this year: We believe our all-women team can be competitive with the coeds!

See you on the court, Team Scrappy!

The New Neighbor Interfaith Alliance pulled off an amazing Set Them Up for Success Volleyball Tournament Fundraiser on August 23, with eight volleyball teams, volunteers, and members of diverse faith and community groups coming together to help new resettled immigrants in Montgomery County.

Under blue skies, eight teams of recreational volleyball players battled it out inside the Inter-Demominational Church of God’s gym in the group’s second volleyball tournament fundraiser. The event also featured a raffle of 16 gift baskets, face painting, painting of peace rocks, a Community Emergency Response Team vehicle for tours, and a food truck by Beltway Bistro.
