I may not be great at posting on social media, but below are some of the things I have done and am currently doing for our Union and our Local instead:
1664 Vice President for just about 6 years, District Representative prior to that.
Currently a Professional Firefighters of Maryland Trustee. Assisting with the development of pro-firefighter legislation. Past President, Charleston SC IAFF Local 61. South Carolina Proffesional Firefighters Association, past Trustee. Previously Assigned to the Appeals and Grievance Committee for the IAFF (District 12). Negotiated the last 5 contracts we’ve received resulting in several improvements in health and welfare, additional longevity steps, pension enhancements, and near 30% in raises and step increases over the same time period. Countless committee and subcommittee work ranging from class and comp, station maintenance, budgets, hours of work, promotions, etc. Constantly involved in grievance proceedings for our members at various levels in the process (ranging from Step 1 to Arbitration). Continually handling various personnel issues and questions, transfers, Kelly selections, and innumerable other meetings to include: Internal Affairs, Attorney consultations, General Membership, Executive Board, Maryland State Board and Membership, Administrative Services, Operations, County Labor Relations, and conferring with the County Executive and other County Councilmembers.
Attending several conferences and conventions to conduct Union related business and/or advocate on behalf of our firefighters. Attending other symposiums and seminars for additional training in legal proceedings, health and safety, political advocacy, and communication. Continually Assisting other Locals in their fight for collective bargaining both locally and elsewhere. Preparing political endorsements and assisting in campaign activities for county and state elections. Constantly building maintaining, and improving both labor and political relationships on local, state, and federal levels. Researching pension and wage improvements for upcoming bargaining in the fall.
…oh yeah, and currently trying to campaign in a contested election.
