A Seeming Stillness
We love the movement in a seeming stillness,
the breath in the body of the loved one sleeping,
the highest leaves in the silent wood,
a great migration in the sky above:
the waters of the earth, the blood in the body,
the first, soft, stir in the silence beneath a strident
voice, the internal hands of our mind,
always looking for touch, thoughts seeking other
thoughts, seeking other minds, the great arrival
of form through all our hidden themes.
And this breath, in this body, able,
just for a moment to give and to take,
to ask and be told, to find and be found,
to bless and be blessed, to hold and be held.
- From David Whyte, Essentials
Our Women's Wellness Walks program for this spring started, as always, with a walk to Beech Hill from Rte 90. A journey across neighborhoods, through storytime, up the side of a blueberry hill.
A journey we have all taken countless times, and yet each time - with new conversations, new moments shared - it seems fresh and new.
We spent time at the top of the hill, in the hazy spring sky, noticing and paying attention before returning the way we'd come. Changed in some small way, by stillness.
I'm indelibly grateful for these moments, carved out of a full life, with these remarkable women. For holding space with each other, and sharing one small part of our lives at this chaotic time. Rejuvenating our spirits so we can head back into the fray.
On this damp, drizzly Tuesday I wish you stillness and deep joy.
