Midcoast Music Academy

Midcoast Music Academy A Community Music School We also offer a number of workshops, labs, and ensembles, as well as music enrichment programs for area schools and businesses.

MCMA is more than a music school; it is a community that encourages people young and old to find and embrace who they are by learning an instrument, developing their own voice on that instrument, and then sharing their voice through performance. We combine a classical music education with a contemporary approach to provide high quality music instruction to students of all ages and skill levels in

a fun, relaxed, and creative environment. Our dedicated faculty provide outstanding instruction and creative mentoring to our students, building confidence and helping students feel connected to the whole MCMA community. Midcoast Music Academy offers both private and group instruction for ages 5 & up on a wide variety of instruments, including acoustic and electric guitar, drums, world percussion, hand percussion, bass guitar, double bass, piano, flute, saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, voice, violin, viola, and ukulele. A few examples include teen a cappella, teen jazz, hand drumming, adult bluegrass band, teen contemporary ensemble, and kids pop group. We are committed to helping students of all ages and skill levels unlock their creative potential and express themselves through music. Join Midcoast Music Academy for an evening of live music with The Speed of Sound and MKTrio - Maine bands with deep ties to MCMA.

October 24th, 7-10pm
Watts Hall, 174 Main Street, Thomaston

The Speed of Sound is a Maine-based indie band that blends sharp musicianship, melodic sensibilities, and a love for timeless songwriting. Fronted by Spencer Albee on lead vocals, vintage keyboards, and rhythm guitar, the group features Zachary Bence (lead guitar, background vocals), Jake Greenlaw (drums, background vocals), and Caleb Sweet (bass, background vocals). The band has a hankering for Wonder, Hendrix, Little Feat, McCartney, The Meters, Zeppelin, Hancock, Bowie, Zevon, and Detroit-era Motown.

MKtrio is Myles Kelley (keys), August Duclos (bass), and Owen Markowitz (drums). Myles and Owen both grew up in Midcoast ME, forever in debt to the angels at MCMA, but August is from The Big Apple. They describe their music as loud, quiet, medium, good, bad, ugly, locally grown and unflinching.

This all-ages fundraiser features a cash bar and raffle, with proceeds supporting Midcoast Music Academy's founding principal to never turn a dedicated student away. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door and can be purchased at www.midcoastmusicacademy.com/mcma-concert

Let's hear it for the Summer of '26!
What a fun, musical, sun-soaked, whirlwind this summer has been!

We kicked off with a joyful Jazz in June (thanks to Camden Opera House and Jazz In June Camden ME !)

We saw comraderie and musical growth at Girls Rock camp (thanks to camp leaders Kate Fiano and Khaya Cohen !)

Our Blues Intensive camp got to learn from Roger Hurricane Wilson and perform at the North Atlantic Blues Festival (thanks to , North Atlantic Blues Festival , Paul E Benjamin, Ocean AVL and instructors Tom Luther, Kate Fiano, and Mark Power MPower Voices!)

We witnessed the birth of a new band, BÄS CHARJ (p**n. Bass Charge) at Gig Camp, who learned from music industry professionals like Keri Spiliopoulos-Lupien of The Waldo Theatre and Spencer Albee, and who rocked two concerts in one week, at Rockport Harbor and the Maine Lobster Festival (thanks to camp leaders Kate Fiano, Tom Luther and Zachary Bence!)

And at our Jazz Intensive camp all campers were nominated by their school or private instructors, and were able to do a deep dive into jazz free of charge, thanks to the generosity of the Eric Davis Jazz Fund (thanks to Eric's family for carrying out his legacy, and to instructors Evan Lattimore, Tom Luther and Zack Bence!)

The fall semester begins Monday August 31 - we can’t wait to see you back in the studio.
