Meet John Snowden, the recipient of the Robert Craig Films Foundation’s Faith-Based Filmmakers Grant.

With over 15 years of experience in the entertainment industry, including working alongside major studio leaders on a large-scale Bible-based film, John has spent years learning how powerful storytelling can be. Through every season, one thing has remained constant, a commitment to follow where he feels called.

Now stepping into filmmaking, John is bringing that calling to life through “Papa Panov’s Special Christmas,” a family friendly, faith based Christmas drama about a man who believes he will encounter Jesus, and what unfolds as he waits.

It takes a team to bring a story to life.
On “Papa Panov’s Special Christmas,” every moment on set was powered by collaboration, and an all hands on deck effort from a crew committed to something bigger than themselves!

This family friendly, faith based Christmas drama tells a moving story of a man waiting for a promised encounter, reminding us that even the smallest acts of love can leave a lasting impact.

Written, directed and produced by John Snowden, the film was brought to life through an incredible few days of production, where a dedicated cast and crew came together with purpose and passion. John states, “Overall the cast and crew were very engaged, driven, and harmonious.”

From stepping into multiple roles to supporting one another through every scene, this team embodied what it means to create with intention!

Lights down… and that’s a wrap!

We’re so excited to share that filming for “Papa Panov’s Special Christmas,” our very first Faith-Based Filmmakers Grant project, has officially wrapped!

Director, Producer and Screenwriter John Snowden and his incredible team poured their hearts into this production, working long days to bring this beautiful story of compassion and faith to life. Despite a few challenges along the way (including some intense winter weather!), the team pushed through with excellence, and unwavering dedication.

From powerful performances to a passionate crew behind the camera, this project is already shaping up to be something truly special.

Robert Craig Films Foundation has chosen our first Faith-based Filmmakers Grant recipient: first-time director and Christian filmmaker John Snowden! 

The $20,000 grant will support the production of “Papa Panov’s Special Christmas,” a film adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s classic story. The project reflects the foundation’s mission to encourage new filmmakers to share their faith in film and to tell stories of compassion, hope, and transformation.

“We are delighted to award our first filmmaking grant to John Snowden. It was a competitive and prayerfully considered review process,” says Board Chair and Executive Director, John Lewis. “His vision aligns with ours, which is to create a world where faith-based film ignites transformation so communities can unite to build a promising future.”

Snowden has long felt the calling to direct faith-based film projects, and this grant marks the realization of that dream.

As a film production company that has also poured our whole selves into scripts and storytelling, we want to acknowledge the top five finalists, who had amazing screenplays as well: Joshua McClinton, Marion MacKenzie-Pyle, Austin Kane Anderson, Quetzalma Pizzella, and Orlando Kemuel. We were honored to read their beautiful work.
