A Spoonful Of Sugar

A Spoonful Of Sugar Sugar is a nonprofit organization that helps cancer patients and their families. Founded by Shannon O’Brien at the start of her cancer battle in 2009.

Please donate or message us if you know of anyone needing assistance! My daughters & I had quite an experience in cancerland. So much so we wrote a book about it. Yep its told through t e eyes of an 8 & 6 yr old while it includes both comical things, such as a head shaving party, to the basic emotions & elements involved in everything from chemo to surgery to radiation. Knowing how much the booked

(& our faith) helped my girls, it became clear that we needed to share our journey w/the kids of other new cancer patients. When people donate to A Spoonful Of Sugar, we will be enabled to give books to cancer centers to be given to these children for free. I was told there was nothing available to me for my kids when I was diagnosed, so its my mission to make sure no other parent has to hear the same thing on such an emotional day.

A VERY SPECIAL BOY NOW IN THE FIGHT FOR HIS LIFE.
Many of you have asked me for an update on Evan Hayes.
He is the 14-year-old from Celina, TN I’ve told you about who is battling an aggressive form of leukemia.
Doctors had said there was nothing more to be done medically to attack the illness.
So, Evan decided to leave the hospital to be home with family and friends for whatever time he has left.
And, so many of you have reached out.
Kind folks have sent him hundreds of Pokemon cards — which he loves.
He’s been to the Gulf in a beach house someone offered.
Morgan Wallen called him with encouraging words and his favorite golfer defending U-S Open champion Bryson DeChambeau flew Evan out for a round of golf in Texas.
I TOLD YOU EVAN THEN HAS HAD A CHANGE OF HEART.
His mother Stephanie tells me Evan decided to return to the hospital to try an intensive, high risk treatment.
He told her he is just not ready to leave this earth yet and wants to fight.
There are no guarantees, but Evan wants to live.
***HERE NOW IS THE LATEST FROM EVAN’S MOTHER:
“Just a little update on Evan.
He was admitted to the hospital last Wednesday.
He had a Lumbar puncture with chemo last Thursday and began 4 days of chemo on Thursday.
He had four days off from chemo.
Then today had another lumbar puncture with chemo in the spine and begins another 4 days of chemotherapy starting today.
He doesn’t feel well at all.
He has been in pain, which is somewhat controlled with meds but not completely. He hasn’t been sleeping well.
And his hair has began to fall out again.
I do not know the effectiveness of anything that he has received thus far.
His immune system is completely wiped out.
He has required platelet and blood transfusions regularly.
His counts will have to recover before they are able to do any testing to see whether it has worked or not.”
