The Wolverine Athletic Association is proud to announce the launch of the Curt Wurst Memorial Scholarship. Please see details and bio about Curt in this post!

Curt is a Sierra College success story. Raised at Donner Lake, he began Sierra in the Fall of 1969. He played football, baseball and was on the ski team. He excelled in football as a wide receiver and earned All-Conference and All-State honors. He was Team Captain and voted by his teammates Most Inspirational two years in a row. The Ag and Athletic Departments were good to Curt and influenced many life decisions. He transferred to Fresno State University on a football scholarship and earned a degree in Animal Science and Genetics.
Curt and his bride, Jane moved to a ranch in North Auburn in 1974 where they established their herd of cattle and made their home for 50+ years. He taught Ag at Placer High and Sierra and was an FFA advisor. His friendship with Sierra Ag teacher, Jerry Van Rein led to many class field trips for Sierra Ag students to get “hands on experience” doctoring and preg checking the Wurst cattle. Though Curt left teaching to work construction and ranch, he continued to mentor young people on the job site and at his Ranch, where by his example, he taught them that there is satisfaction and pleasure in working hard.
It is an honor that Curt’s legacy can continue to impact young people as they participate in athletics at Sierra College and find their own career paths and form lasting friendships.
