Orlando Health today announced plans for a new state-of the-art hospital and medical office building to be built on a planned 40-acre health and wellness campus in Viera. The project, Orlando Health Viera Hospital, will be in Borrows West between Lake Andrew Drive and I-95, just south of Viera Boulevard in Brevard County.
โ€œThis is an exciting day for this region and for Orlando Health as we move forward with plans for this state-of-the-art facility,โ€ said Ohme Entin, president of Orlando Health East Region and SVP Orlando Health. โ€œWith the addition of this new facility, we will continue to build on the level of healthcare services that the community deserves and has come to expect from Orlando Health.โ€
Working closely with The Viera Company, Orlando Health expects to break ground on the project in June 2026.
โ€œThe announcement of Orlando Healthโ€™s health and wellness campus coming to the mixed-use commercial hub of Borrows West in Viera is a powerful affirmation of the vision laid out by our communityโ€™s founders more than 35 years ago,โ€ said Todd J. Pokrywa, president of The Viera Company. โ€œThis milestone reflects the thoughtful planning that has always placed essential medical services and new major employment centers at the heart of Vieraโ€™s master plan. We are honored that Orlando Health has chosen Viera as the home for this transformative investment, which will not only meet vital healthcare needs but also provide new jobs in the community that serve as a catalyst for continued growth across residential, hospitality, office, retail, and dining sectors in Borrows West, Viera, and the broader Central Space Coast region.โ€

A weirdly typical, chaotic couple of days that can sometimes define the Space Coast.
A major rocket explosion during a Thursday night test. A successful rocket launch Friday morning, with another scheduled for Friday afternoon.
And for good measure, Compass by Margaritaville announced Friday morning - at a festive Accelerate Brevard new-member orientation at the Center for Collaboration - that itโ€™s breaking ground July 13 on a 150-room hotel.
Scheduled to open in early 2027 in Cape Canaveral, the hotel will boast luxury suites, two bar areas and a roof-top observation deck. The hotel is expected to employee 80-90 people.
Whew! All this in less than 24 hours.

Wagging the dog โ€“ in a good way!

Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital recently launched its first hospital-based pet therapy program in Brevard County. Led its Orlando Healthโ€™s Wellness Team, it supports the emotional well-being of patients, visitors, and healthcare workers.

The program for this area started at Orlando Healthโ€™s Sebastian River Hospital last year and earlier this month โ€“ coinciding with May as Mental Health Awareness Month โ€“ it expanded to its Melbourne Hospital.

Studies show that interaction with certified therapy dogs can reduce patient anxiety by up to 35%, making pet therapy a powerful tool in lowering stress inside high-pressure healthcare environments. This new program will bring trained therapy dogs into the hospital to provide comfort, connection, and moments of calm when theyโ€™re needed most.

The program introduces trained, certified therapy dogs into clinical spaces to ease anxiety and promote emotional wellโ€‘being in one of lifeโ€™s most vulnerable moments.

โ€œHealing isnโ€™t just physical - itโ€™s emotional,โ€ said Alejandra Velasquezโ€‘Perez, Orlando Health Pet Therapy Program East Region coordinator. โ€œWe consistently see how quickly a simple pet interaction can shift someoneโ€™s experience. When a therapy dog enters a room, patients relax, staff pause for a moment and blood pressure lowers. Those small moments of comfort and connection can mean everything during an overwhelming time.โ€

Orlando Healthโ€™s pet therapy program began in 1991 and has grown systemwide to include 86 active therapy teams. The expansion to the East Region six months ago extends that legacy, with three dogs now serving the area โ€” Chloe, Kevin the Great Pyrenees and Dolly the Golden Retriever.

Orlando Health encourages community members interested in becoming pet therapy volunteers to visit the organizationโ€™s Pet Therapy Program webpage to learn about eligibility requirements and certification steps to volunteer or to donate.
