Leadership Is More Than Holding a Title
Serving as an officer in the VFW Auxiliary is much more than accepting a title. It is making a commitment to our veterans, our members, and the mission we promised to uphold.
Leadership means being present. It means volunteering when help is needed, attending events whenever possible, supporting fundraisers, encouraging members, and standing beside those who work tirelessly to serve our veterans and their families.
Every officer took an oath to help guide this Auxiliary. Our members look to us for leadership, dedication, and example. When officers are absent from their own Post during important events, it sends a message—whether intended or not—that our mission is not the priority.
We all have personal lives and other interests, and no one can attend every event. However, our veterans deserve officers who consistently place the VFW Auxiliary’s mission first whenever they have made a commitment to serve.
Our veterans sacrificed for our freedoms. The least we can do is honor that sacrifice by giving our time, our energy, and our support to the organization that exists to serve them.
Let us remember why we accepted these positions. Not for recognition, but for service. Not for a title, but for teamwork. Not for ourselves, but for the veterans, active-duty military, their families, and our community.
Together, let us recommit ourselves to being leaders who show up, encourage one another, and keep our focus where it belongs—serving those who have served us.
