BeMoved goes beyond physical movement; each class gives individuals a welcoming environment in order to truly be opened and revitalized through the joy of movement! Christy Munch has been involved in the dance theatre profession for over three decades, performing, teaching, directing, costuming, and combining various dance forms into new choreography. In 2018, Christy earned her Elite Artistry Cer
tification in BeMoved® - a dance experience that inspires people of all movement levels to fully express themselves through the beauty of dance. She began to teach BeMoved with the School District of Janesville’s wellness program then expanded to the Janesville Athletic Club, the Beloit YMCA, and in the Rockford dance community. Munch holds a Masters in Interdisciplinary Arts and a Masters in the Art of Teaching - both from Columbia College Chicago. Influential teachers in her dance career were from Chicago area studios where studied with Gus Giordano, Joel Hall, Lou Conte, and at the Dance Center of Columbia College. The primary modern dance choreographers she worked with in Chicago were Jan Bartoszek/Hedwig Dances and Timothy Buckley, with whom she toured to Jacob’s Pillow International Dance Festival and Dance Theatre Workshop in New York. Munch has taught a variety of dance technique and methods courses at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Links Hall, St. Ignatius College Prep High School, the Leyden High Schools, the Illinois High School Theatre Festival, the Illinois High School Dance Festival, and at numerous independent studios and park districts in Illinois and Wisconsin. For eleven years she directed the Orchesis Dance Group at Leyden High School. Her costuming credits include Hedwig Dances, Bob Eisen, Winifred Haun & Dancers, Zephyr Dance, Jill Daley, and Red Moon Theatre’s Moby Dick, which won an After Dark Theatre Award in Chicago. Her choreography has been produced at numerous dance venues in Chicago, on stages large and small, and was featured for five years in Chicago’s NEXT Dance Festival. Munch’s Chicago work has been reviewed in the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun Times, Dance Magazine, and the Chicago Reader. Munch founded the Franklin Ave Dance Company, a semi-professional dance company which was in residence at the Park District of Franklin Park and then at the Dance Centre of Lombard in Illinois. The purpose of FADCo was to provide training and performing opportunities for adults who have a passion for dance. The company maintained a mixed repertoire of short entertaining pieces and concert dance choreography.
