UUANI UUs across Illinois are coming together to work for justice, beloved community, and a healthy planet, putting our deepest values into effective action.

The Unitarian Universalist Advocacy Network of Illinois (UUANI) is a newly-formed organization of over 20 UU congregations across the state created to put our UU values and principles into action—and your congregation can be part of it. Our first effort was to organize around the successful campaign to achieve marriage equality in Illinois, mobilizing over 300 UU's from 23 congregations for the Ma

rch on Springfield for Marriage Equality in October 2012. We look forward to building on this success to work collectively on other issues of common concern among UU’s across the state.

"We are working to ensure that property tax spikes—which we’ve seen hitting Winnebago County particularly hard, with some of the highest effective rates in the nation—don't displace our seniors or our families. We connect 34 Illinois congregations to fight these systemic inequities."

"When we pay attention to these headlines, it’s easy to feel a sense of "outrage fatigue." We are living in a time where the "Breaking News" banner is permanently burned into the bottom of our collective consciousness. There is a profound difference between monitoring the news and witnessing the world.

Monitoring is passive. It’s the data that hits us and leaves us feeling paralyzed. Witnessing, however, is a spiritual discipline. To witness is to look at the headline about the border and refuse to see a "policy issue," but instead to see a parent whose heart beats with the same terrifying love for their child as yours does. To witness the "funding stalls" in Springfield is to see the face of the person who will sleep on a bench tonight because we couldn't find the political will to be human."

Say “No” to SAVE Act 2.0
The Senate has announced that it will open debate on the SAVE Act today.
We need to sound off in opposition to keep the pressure up.
What is SAVE Act 2.0?
HR 7300, the Make Elections Great Again Act,
HR 7296, The Save America Act,

These Bills Would:
Make it harder to vote: These proposals may disenfranchise millions of eligible voters
Make it harder to administer elections: Requires major and immediate changes to local operations, but does not have a grace period or funding for implement changes.

Take Action:
1. Write Your Senators:
https://bit.ly/SAVE-Act2
2. Call Your Senators via Common Cause Phonebank: https://www.mobilize.us/commoncause/event/921096/?utm_source=uusj
3. Attend the Rally on Wednesday: https://www.mobilize.us/lightfordemocracy/event/921003/?utm_source=uusj
4. Call Your Senator using this script:
Find your Senator: https://uusj.net/wp1/federal-legislative-lookup
Call the Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224-3121
Script:
Hi, my name is ____, I live in ____ (town and state) and I am a person of faith.

I join others from across the U.S. in calling on you to oppose any version of the SAVE Act, be it the “Make Elections Great Again Act” (H.R. 7300) or “SAVE America Act" (HR 7296).

None of the these bills, make it easier to vote. They risk participation and strip states of their Constitutional right and responsibility to administer elections.

I say hands off my access to the ballot box. The SAVE Act is a red-line for me.

Thank you!

"We find ourselves today in the heart of Black History Month. I don't see this month as a look back. I see it as an operational blueprint for the present. When Carter G. Woodson founded this observance 100 years ago, he wasn’t just looking for a pat on the back. He was building communal power."

Love over Fear! Together We Can Close Dilley! ✊ [raised fist]

Tonight, February 12 at 8pm ET, join Texas Unitarian Universalist Justice Ministry and UUs across Texas for this important virtual action hour continuing the call to "Libertad para los niños" or "Free the children!" at the Dilley Detention Center. We'll take action together and nourish our spirits with music from Emma's Revolution!

Recent national attention has put pressure on the detention center to release some children and families over the past two weeks. With a measles outbreak reported last week, we must keep up the pressure by calling on state and federal officials to close Dilley now!
