If you know Dr. H. Cyrus Oates, you know that sitting still isn't exactly his specialty. Between running Oates Dental, caring for patients at his own practice, overseeing the Mobile Dental Unit, and continuing to build the mission of 205 DDS, his days are anything but ordinary. And when he's not treating patients, he's often working behind the scenes, pursuing grants, securing funding, building relationships, and finding ways to ensure that children throughout Rockford Public Schools have access to the dental care they deserve.

But what makes Dr. Oates truly remarkable isn't just how much he does. It's the heart behind why he does it. His passion for serving children and removing barriers to dental care has inspired an incredible team of people to join him in this mission. Ask around the Mobile Dental Unit and 205 DDS, and you'll discover that so many of the people who have dedicated their time, talents, and careers to this organization did so because they believed in Dr. Oates and his vision. And they stayed because that passion is contagious. He doesn't simply talk about making a difference. He has spent years putting in the work to make it happen.

As a recipient of the prestigious Excalibur Award, Dr. Oates has been recognized for his leadership and commitment to the community. But perhaps one of his greatest accomplishments can't be measured by an award. It's found in the thousands of children who have received dental care, the families who have one less barrier to overcome, and the team of dedicated professionals who continue showing up because they believe in what 205 DDS stands for.

Dr. Oates, today we want to recognize YOU. For the countless hours nobody sees, the challenges you continue to tackle, the opportunities you create, and the genuine compassion you bring to everything you do. Your heart for this community is the foundation of something extraordinary, and we are grateful for the example you set every single day.

Please join us in showing some appreciation for the man whose vision and determination continue to move 205 DDS forward at 205dds.org/donate

Behind Every Healthy Smile Is Someone Who Cares. Meet Dr. Kelli Aaby!

At 205 DDS, our mission is about so much more than dentistry. It's about making sure every child has access to the dental care they deserve, regardless of their circumstances. And that mission wouldn't be possible without dedicated professionals like Dr. Kelli Aaby, whose commitment extends far beyond the dental chair.

Dr. Aaby plays a leading role in our Mobile Dental Unit, bringing essential dental services directly to students throughout Rockford Public Schools. Her dedication doesn't stop there. She also volunteers her time providing care at the 205 DDS clinic and serves as a member of our Board of Directors, contributing her knowledge, experience, and leadership to the continued growth of our organization. Whether she's treating students, supporting our team, or contributing to decisions that shape our future, Dr. Aaby is an important part of what makes 205 DDS possible.

Working with children takes more than clinical expertise. It takes patience, compassion, understanding, and the ability to turn what might be an intimidating experience into a positive one. Through her work with the Mobile Dental Unit and our clinic, Dr. Aaby contributes to something much bigger than healthy teeth. She's building trust, encouraging lifelong dental habits, and making a meaningful difference for children and families throughout our community.

Today, we're celebrating Dr. Aaby and the many ways she gives back to 205 DDS and the students we serve. From leading our Mobile Dental Unit to volunteering her time and serving on our board, her commitment is a wonderful example of what happens when professional expertise meets a genuine dedication to community.

Thank you, Dr. Aaby, for the time, talent, and heart you invest in our mission. We're grateful to have you on our team!

Not All Superheroes Wear Capes. Some Wear Scrubs.

And instead of saving the world from villains, they're saving smiles, easing fears, and making a difference in the lives of children every single day.

At 205 DDS, our dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, Mobile Dental Unit team, and dedicated support staff do so much more than provide dental care. They're the reassuring voices when a child feels nervous, the friendly faces that turn uncertainty into confidence, and the compassionate professionals who understand that sometimes a little patience and kindness can make just as much of a difference as the treatment itself.

Whether they're apart of our Mobile Dental Unit, traveling to schools throughout Rockford Public Schools, or providing restorative care at our 205 DDS clinic at The QUAD, every member of our team plays an important role in making quality dental care accessible to children who need it.

Because being a superhero isn't always about doing something extraordinary. Sometimes, it's about showing up every day and doing ordinary things with extraordinary compassion.

To our incredible Mobile Dental Unit and 205 DDS teams, thank you for the patience, dedication, and heart you bring to every child you serve. You're making a difference that extends far beyond a healthy smile.

And here's where YOU can be part of the story. Our teams bring the compassion, expertise, and dedication, but it takes a community to keep this mission moving forward. Your generosity supports the dental care, equipment, and resources needed to reach thousands of students each year.

You don't need a cape or a pair of scrubs to make a difference. Whether you make a one-time gift or become a monthly donor, you're joining a community that believes every child deserves access to quality dental care. https://www.205dds.org/donate

Be honest. Does your two-minute brushing routine actually last two minutes?

For kids (and adults!), a good brushing routine starts with the basics: brush twice a day for two full minutes, use fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush, and make sure you’re reaching every tooth.

And for younger kids, a little help from a grown-up can go a long way. Sometimes the hardest part isn’t brushing their teeth... it’s convincing them to stand still for two whole minutes!

Parents, what’s your best trick for getting your kids excited about brushing? A favorite song? A timer? Letting them pick their own toothbrush? Share your ideas below!

Thursday looks better with a smile.

We spend a lot of time talking about dental care, access, school days, and everything that goes into making 205 DDS work.

But sometimes, it really is this simple.

Healthy kids. Happy smiles. A community taking care of its own.

Have a great weekend, Rockford!

Rockford Kids Deserve Something to Smile About!

Every smile has a story, and every child behind that smile is part of our community. They're our neighbors, our children's classmates, our friends, and our family members. And every single one of them deserves access to quality dental care.

At 205 DDS, we're proud to work alongside Rockford Public Schools, dedicated dental professionals, and community supporters to make that care possible. Through our Mobile Dental Unit and clinic at The QUAD, we're helping children right here in Rockford receive the dental care they need to grow, learn, and smile with confidence.

This isn't just about healthy teeth. It's about investing in the health and well-being of the next generation, one child and one smile at a time.

Because when Rockford's kids have something to smile about, our whole community benefits.

A dental office that comes to YOU!

For Rockford Public Schools students, a trip to the dentist can start right at school.

The 205 DDS Mobile Dental Unit brings preventive dental care directly to students, helping identify concerns early, provide care, and connect children with additional treatment when it’s needed.

For parents, it removes some of the barriers that can make getting to the dentist difficult. For kids, it’s an opportunity to become more comfortable with dental care in a familiar environment.

And here’s where you can help us get the word out:

If you have children in RPS 205, or know a family who does, please share this post. There may be a parent in your circle who has never heard of 205 DDS and doesn’t realize dental care is available to their child through this program.

One share could help another Rockford family find the care they’ve been looking for.

A healthy smile shouldn't depend on a ride to the dentist.

For some families, getting their child to a dental appointment means taking time off work, finding transportation, rearranging schedules, or choosing between responsibilities that simply can't wait. And sometimes, despite their best efforts, dental care gets pushed further down the list.

That's why we do things differently at 205 DDS.

Through our partnership with Rockford Public Schools, we bring dental care directly to students through our Mobile Dental Unit. And when a child needs additional treatment, our clinic at The QUAD helps ensure their care doesn't stop at a screening. With transportation provided through RPS 205 during the school year, we're removing barriers that might otherwise keep children from receiving the care they need.

Because a child's access to dental care shouldn't be determined by their family's circumstances. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and smile with confidence.

We're proud to be part of a community that believes in showing up for its children, right where they are.

Things you hear when you work in dentistry:

"I promise I floss."
"Is it going to hurt?"
"Do I get a new toothbrush?"
"How much longer?"
And our personal favorite...
"WAIT! I HAVE A LOOSE TOOTH! I WANNA SEE?!"

Never a dull moment around here, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Here's to the little personalities that keep our team smiling all week long! 😀

MONDAY MOOD: We willingly look inside mouths for a living.

Some people dread Mondays. We show up ready to count teeth, tell questionable dental jokes, and convince kids that we're actually pretty cool.

It's a unique line of work, but we wouldn't trade it for anything. Especially when we get to do it alongside a team that makes even the busiest Mondays something to smile about.

Here's to another week of making little smiles a BIG deal!
