As most of you know Gunite was purchased by Rockford Brake Manufacturing. Since this is a "New" company that means that the 300+ laid off workers of UAW Local 718 do not have recall rights.

We are aware that Gunite is hiring for Foundry/Maintenance employees. The Union (Local, Regional & International) are looking into matters along with local political figures.

In December when the wind down agreement was voted on, it was agreed upon by both Union & Accuride that if Accuride or an entity of Accuride kept Gunite open or purchased the company that Local 718 has full recall rights and that the current CBA would go back into effect.

We will keep the Local updated as we learn new information.

Local 718 will be walking in the parade on Monday, September 1, 2025. We invite all Local 718 Brothers/Sisters/Retirees & family to walk with us. Under the current circumstances, we will not be purchasing t-shirts and we ask that you wear previous years t-shirts or red for solidarity. If you would like to donate candy to throw that would be great, otherwise we will have a limited amount.

When: Monday, September 1, 2025
Time: 8:30-9am, we will start walking at 10:00am
Where: 1130 5th Ave, Rockford, IL (between 7th & 8th Streets)

With a heavy heart I have to announce the passing of a former millwright Jeff Schaeffer. Jeff passed away on Friday after a short battle with stage 4 lung cancer in PA.

Prayers for his mother, daughters, girlfriend and his best friend- his dog are appreciated.
