🔥 LAST CALL 🔥

Our Spring session of FIRE TENDERS begins this Sunday afternoon, 4/12. We have an incredible group of young men from 10-13 years of age… and we have availability for a couple more to join us!

Over the next 6 Sunday afternoons, we come together to learn about tinder bundles, fire skills, knot tying, tarp shelter building, tracking - and we build in a ton of fun challenges and games! We have a BLAST!

Not only are we learning to tend literal fires - but also the metaphorical fires within. We’re developing gratitude and confidence through empowering community in nature. And lot of fun.

Want your boy to join but need assistance or have questions? Send us a message or contact us via the website. We’d love to talk!

Week 5! After sharing gratitudes around the fire, and playing some games that taught us about balance and core strength, we took a hike into the woods for our to learn how to tie our next knot! While the Evenk knot from last week acts as our anchor, we learned how to tie the other end with a Taut-Line hitch knot.

Of course, once the boys figured out Evenk anchor knots and Taut-Line hitch knots… they created a taut line and had a stick launching contest using the line as a sling shot 😂

We then used teamwork and our new knot skills to create… the Jedi Trainign Course! A taut line above 4 secured logs with a weighted line hanging in the center. Balance and core strength is needed to stay on your log while the hanging weighted line is hit among the players… if you are hit, you’re out! So much fun using balance and strategy to stay in the game. The force is strong with these boys 🙌🏻

It’s hard to believe we’re already approaching week 5! With that, here are some highlights from week 4 which was a transition into some new skills like knot trying.

We first took the boys on a hike, and incited them into a practice that requires using senses and going slow as a way to actually go faster. Mr. Matt and Mr. Nic walked ahead and found a spot in the woods to be play a drum beat. The boys were blindfolded, asked to remain in silence, and to make their way, one by one, to the drum by moving carefully and using their other senses.

This lesson helps greatly as patience and going slow are helpful in learning to tie a knot. Our knot this week was the Evenk knot which is an incredibly my useful knot for things like shelter building, and has an easy release. The boys were steadfast and learned the knot well - actually getting to the point of having races to see how fast each could get their knot completed!

We made our way back to camp for snacks and fun by the creek swing before introducing our big game for the afternoon - Capture the Flag!

The twist? The boys had bandana tails, and the guides were out there also hunting them to take their “tails”. The boys were encouraged to use the same concept of moving slow and using senses to actually go faster. So much fun!
