Sheila O’Leary, who recently transitioned from Volunteer Program Manager to a special programs role, has received Northern Illinois Hospice's highest service recognition. She was honored with The Bruce Ewald Service Award for her humble and committed leadership, her mission impact and strong stewardship, and for being an inspiration to others. The award is named for Bruce Ewald (1948-2020), a Rockford pharmacist and treasured Northern Illinois Hospice leader and volunteer for nearly 40 years. Sheila has a 33-year connection to our mission as a family caregiver, volunteer, staff member, and manager. Congratulations to Sheila! The Northern Illinois Hospice Pet Zone was open for "pooch smooches" (and Ice Hog kisses) at this past weekend's Walk to End Alzheimer's. We were proud to be a sponsor and we walked to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's care, support, and research. Thank you to Taylor Adolphson and our friends at the Alzheimer's Association Illinois Chapter and everyone who participated.

The Bruce Ewald Service Award is the highest service recognition at Northern Illinois Hospice. We are pleased to share that Jon Aldrich, a board member in his 21st year of leadership, recently received the honor. Jon earned the award for his humble service, mission impact, strong stewardship, and for inspiring others. After 15 years leading the department, Sheila O'Leary has transitioned from Volunteer Program Manager to a new role coordinating volunteer special programs. At a recent celebration, volunteers and staff thanked Sheila and celebrated this new chapter while welcoming new Volunteer Program Manager Melanie Costello. Thank you and congratulations to Sheila and please stop in to say "Hi" to Melanie when you're in the neighborhood.
