Nayle attended Calvin Gustafson is a dedicated Scout and currently serves as the Senior Patrol Leader of his troop. As a Life Scout working toward the rank of Eagle Scout, Calvin has already achieved over 73 nights of camping, 23 miles of hiking, and more than 85 hours of service within the Rockford community. He is also a member of the Order of the Arrow and participates in the Venturing Crew, continuing to expand his leadership and Scouting experiences.

Calvin is passionate about leadership and committed to helping guide the troop in a positive direction while encouraging Scouts to get the most out of every opportunity Scouting provides. He leads with determination, enthusiasm, and a constant drive to come up with new ideas that strengthen the troop.

Outside of Scouting, Calvin enjoys playing volleyball, participating in theater and music club, fundraising, cracking jokes, and spending time with competent people who push each other to improve. He brings energy, humor, and creativity into everything he does.

Some of Calvin’s favorite Scouting memories include the tree house at Many Point and singing “Little Einsteins” in the black van on the way home from camp — moments that remind him Scouting is more than just an activity, it’s a way of life.

Attending Nayle will teach Calvin valuable leadership skills and experiences that he looks forward to bringing back to his troop to help strengthen and improve the program in many ways.

NAYLE attendee, Scouts BSA member Frannie is a Life Scout currently working toward her Eagle Scout rank with an inspiring project supporting a local women’s shelter, with more details coming soon. She is also a proud member of the Order of the Arrow.

Throughout her scouting journey, Frannie has accumulated over 80 nights of camping, 65 hours of community service, and 40 miles of hiking. This June, she will complete her 20-mile hike milestone.

At one point, Frannie and Lisa were the only girls in their troop, but that never slowed them down. The two stayed busy attending campouts, service projects, hikes, and troop activities while helping pave the way for future female scouts in the troop.

Service has always been at the heart of Frannie’s scouting experience. Whether helping clean up the Stork House, setting up Christmas trees for Crow River Christmas, or volunteering at numerous Eagle Scout projects, she is always eager to give back to her community. If there’s a community event happening, Frannie is usually one of the first to sign up.

Frannie says her favorite part about scouting is the campouts and volunteer work. Through scouting, she has learned what it truly means to be a good leader and patrol mate while building friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. One of her favorite scouting memories was from Many Point a few years ago, sitting outside the trading post drinking slushies and spinning in circles with new friends from another troop. It’s moments like those simple, fun, and unforgettable that make scouting such a meaningful experience for her.

Outside of scouting, Frannie is actively involved in FFA and theater, where she continues to demonstrate leadership, dedication, and a strong commitment to her community.

NAYLE attendee, Scouts BSA member Lisa made history as the first female Scout to cross over into Troop 5490. She has earned over 100 camping nights, completed more than 100 hours of community service in Rockford, and hiked over 50 miles. Lisa is also a member of the Order of the Arrow and Venturing Crew.

Lisa currently serves as the Junior Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 490 and is a strong role model for younger Scouts. Her favorite part of scouting is “going on adventures and learning,” and she says scouting has taught her how to learn from mistakes and move forward.

Her scouting adventures have included backpacking, cave exploring, building fires, sleeping under the stars, fundraising for her own trips, soon to be attending Philmont Scout Ranch NAYLE and Florida National High Adventure Sea Base in August, and spending one summer working at Many point scout camp as the trading post manager.

In June, Lisa will complete her Eagle Scout project, “Project Pack a Smile,” marking another milestone in her scouting journey and our troop as the first female Eagle Scout for Troop 490!

Outside of scouting, Lisa’s passion is theater. She has found a second home at Bluewater Theatre Company, where she participates in plays and serves as a student youth director, she also is apart of the Rockford Robotics team. After high school, she plans to attend college to pursue a theater degree.
