We recognize election engagement as an act of Christian stewardship. Our mandate to care for God’s world and people compels us to vote—and to help ensure voting access for others. Election engagement also means we seek to stay informed; critically evaluate information before we share or act on it; and engage in respectful political dialogue even when we disagree.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church is an early voting site for the City of Rockford!

One of our Choral Scholars, Chris Caruana, presented his senior workshop on Saturday, October 17 at Rockford University Maddox Theater. Chris put the show together himself and included a friend as a fellow actor in the piece. Both of them were incredible, but Chris especially so! Please check out any performance at Rockford University this year, as Chris will likely be on stage. It’s definitely worth your time!!

Six more parishes across the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago are getting a closer look at how their buildings use energy. 🌱

Last year, five congregations welcomed an energy auditor and got to work. They installed smart thermostats, sealed drafty windows, renegotiated utility contracts, and began exploring solar. This year, six congregations will take the same step:

Emmanuel Episcopal Church
St. Hugh-Elgin, IL
St. John's Episcopal Church - Naperville
The Annunciation of Our Lady Episcopal Church
Christ Episcopal Church Waukegan
Iglesia Episcopal Cristo Rey (Chicago)

This work is made possible through our partnership with Eco DioChicago and funded by our Catalyst Project Fund. Caring for creation and caring for our neighbors go hand in hand.

Emmanuel and the Arts:
1) We had great attendance for last weekend's gallery display featuring the works of beloved parishioner Sydney Lyon Baldwin during this year's Rockford Area Arts Council Fall ArtScene. Many thanks to her family members for curating the collection and to our volunteers for their hosting and hospitality.
2) Our partnership with The West Side Show Room is gaining steam. Our musical theater dancers learn original choreography and perform as a group while blending modern technique with creative exploration. The Strength and Balance class incorporates strength training and balance exercises to improve muscle, increase flexibility and reduce the risk of falls. More details and registration are at https://wssr.org/
3) Don't Miss our upcoming organ recital! On August 18, Emmanuel will feature Rachel Harris Schmitt performing Anna Lapwood's movie arrangements from How to Tame Your Dragon, The DaVinci Code, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Rachel will also be presenting her new favorite: Bach's Prelude and Fugue in e-minor ""The Cathedral" More details are at: https://www.facebook.com/share/14qGe23UFEP/

Under the wonderful direction of Rachel Harris Schmitt, we have brought back music to our Sunday school youth. The kids practiced the last several weeks for their debut - All God’s Critters. Thank you all who have supported this renewed part of the youth’s Christian education. We look forward to them sharing more.
