in history, Harriet Beecher Stowe was born in Litchfield, Connecticut in 1811. She died in 1896 and is remembered as one of the most influential abolitionist authors of the 19th century. Her best-selling book, "Uncle Tom’s Cabin," an anti-slavery novel containing vivid descriptions of the sufferings and oppression of enslaved African Americans in the United States. is the work that she is perhaps most well known for.

The book provoked a storm of protest and is often credited for being one of the many catalyst of the Civil War.
