Imagine being born before the Titanic sank and still being here 116 years later.
Naomi Whitehead, the oldest known living person in the United States, celebrated her 116th birthday on September 26 in Greenville, Pennsylvania. Born in 1910 in rural Georgia, she grew up on a farm, married Sylvester Whitehead in 1930 and raised three sons. She has held the title of America’s oldest living person since October 2024.
Her life stretches across more than a century of American history. As a child, Whitehead helped her family pick cotton and to***co, long before smartphones, television or even commercial air travel became part of everyday life. Family members have described her as deeply religious and active throughout her life, and she has said she never smoked or drank alcohol. At 116, her extraordinary longevity continues to fascinate people around the world.
What do you think is the secret to living such a long life ?
