Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in his name without discrimination. Our Approach
People often ask why The Salvation Army offers so many different services and programs. The programs and services differ in order to meet the unique needs of the people in the communities we serve. We take a holistic approach to Doing the Most Good where there is the most need, without discrimination, whether it be disaster relief, emergency assistance, substance abuse rehabilitation, or educational programs for children. If you find yourself in need, whether that need be practical, recreational, spiritual or emotional, we hope you will seek our assistance. If you would like to get involved with The Salvation Army and volunteer or donate to our cause, we invite you to explore some options we have tailored for you. You can learn more about our programs/services and how to get involved on our website at www.SalArmyWinnebago.org. The Salvation Army International
When founders William and Catherine Booth began the work in London that would grow to become The Salvation Army, few would have predicted their legacy: an organization, part of the Christian Church, now working in over 131 countries and with a history spanning more than 150 years. Throughout this time there have been millions of members, and people have been helped right across the world – but this movement had humble beginnings. 100 women. $1,000 each. One home for hope.

Right now in Winnebago County, 15.62% of our neighbors live in poverty. Higher than Illinois. Higher than the nation. Behind that number are mothers choosing between the electric bill and groceries, kids without a single mentor in their corner, and families one hard week from losing their home.

This year, that changes. The Salvation Army Hope Center opens in Rockford, bringing food assistance, rent and utility help, job pathways, and a place to belong together under one roof. One door, and everything a neighbor in crisis needs waiting on the other side.

We're inviting 100 women to each pledge $1,000. Together that's $100,000 to open the doors at full strength and keep them growing.

Less than $3 a day. A family stabilized. A barrier removed. A cycle broken for good.

Behind every number is a person, a family and a story of hope.

In 2025, The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services served 158,120 people across North and Central Illinois, providing compassion, care and critical support during times of crisis.

Whether responding to disasters, offering a helping hand or providing comfort during life's most difficult moments, our mission remains the same: to bring hope when it's needed most.

We are grateful to our dedicated staff, volunteers, donors and community partners who make this work possible. Together, we are making a difference.
