People who recognize the
potential in every person and committed to helping them realize that potential. The first event held in 2019 was a success
largely in part to Alicia Neubauer. When presented with the idea, she got to work putting the pieces together to make it a
reality. Her commitment to her community and eternal optimism simply would not allow for any less. That energy is
what we hop
e to carry on. Screw City Uprising has 2 goals:
1) To put on events and raise awareness for mental health and substance abuse for people in the margins of our
community. Aimed primarily at young people, we hope to bring together people from all walks of life and
provide a light in the darkness for them.
2) To build a permanent facility, in honor of Alicia Neubauer, in Rockford that includes an indoor skatepark,
music/art studio, and space for various community resources. Mission
The energy of the first Screw City Uprising event was organic and synchronistic. The momentum of that first event was
powerful. Now, as we began planning the Screw City Uprising 2.0, that same energy is alive and pulsating, pushing us
toward a vision of a home, a space for groups to welcome whoever needs support, a space where the resources they need
are not in some distant office, but in the same space where they gather to play, to socialize, and to learn. We have all
these resources in the community, and if we can bring them together, if we can put our energies into the same space, we
can achieve the impossible. We can provide our community with a space that accepts people for who they are and help
them achieve whatever next steps they want. To lift up whoever comes to our doors.
