Meet Lydia, who is 24 years old and fighting stage 4 melanoma. She is one of our “Anna’s Wish” recipients this year in partnership with . From Lydia: I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma in November 2023. I lived on my own, worked as a pizza hut delivery driver, and spent time with my sister and friends. I didn’t have any symptoms until I felt intense pain in my stomach, which led to an ER visit and learning I had cancer at 22. It skipped my skin and started initially as a 14cm tumor on my left o***y, spreading all over my body, and had brain surgery to remove 4 tumors in my head. I’ve had radiation on both my brain and one of my ribs, and take daily oral chemo.

I am now 24, and all I’ve ever wanted to do was explore the world. I always told myself I’d end up living in Oregon state and build a life for myself there. Cancer stole my dream from me, but I take every opportunity I get to continue traveling.

I am now living with family, and am seen by doctors at UW Madison. It has been almost 2 years living with this, and I will be fighting the rest of my life. I continue to fight this battle for my sister, friends, and my cats.

Since being diagnosed, I’ve learned to appreciate every small part about life because you never know how your future will change.

Ticket sales for our golf outing and post-golf cocktail hour/dinner program closes this Friday! Join us on Friday, Sept 26th at for a day of fun and celebration. We’re so excited to have some previous Wish Recipients coming to our event as well as new Wish Recipients to meet and hear their stories! This is our “why.” We’re 3 weeks away from our golf outing and wanted to take time today to tell you about one of this year’s “Anna’s Wish” recipients. We received a call this spring from saying they had a time sensitive wish and hoped we could help. 23 year old Ethan was declining quickly— he was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma in October 2023 while he was a college student studying finance.

Ethan wrote, “I’ve been fighting this cancer tooth and nail and have been trying to live a life of positivity and normalcy, but this has been difficult due to the constant rounds of chemo and hospital visits. This has made living life enormously difficult at times due to the stress, inability to walk, exhaustion, and sickness requiring hospitalization. Recently I was told that my disease has progressed all over my spine and legs and I likely don’t have much time left.”

Ethan’s wish was to get a golden retriever puppy, which he named Penny. He wanted a companion to comfort him, a reason to go for walks, and something to help him maintain day-to-day structure. Ethan passed away in July and we are comforted knowing Ethan had that love and companionship with Penny, which is now his family’s pet.

Because of your support we have been able to partner with NRF to grant “Anna’s Wish” for the last 7 years, and this year we are granting “Anna’s WISHES” with Ethan being our first of three recipients in 2025. Wow! We are so excited to see our friend Erin Watson of Streusel & Sage will be doing a pop up at 27 ALUNA at Octane. A portion of proceeds will be donated to AMF. We are so thankful for Erin’s generous and continuous support to the Anna Miller Foundation. We met at my stint @ Abreo Restaurant late 2010 she was one of the few chefs I worked with that had a high kitchen IQ right off the bat! One of the hardest working people I know and probably the biggest fan of any Disney movie themes in the world! 🤣

On this Giving Tuesday, we thought we’d share this video from our 2023 Anna’s Wish recipient, Peyton! She was unable to come to our annual golf outing this year and sent us a video talking about her wish trip and how life is going. She spent her 22nd birthday with her family on her Wish Trip to Alaska and had a great time and is now in grad school at the University of Iowa! It’s moments like these where we are so thankful to continue Anna’s memory in partnership with and grant a yearly wish through Nik’s Wish. We know that sometimes these trips are a celebration of remission, and other times become lasting memories their family had together. We are honored to be a small part of making these moments happen, and we can’t do it without the endless support that we have received over these last six years.
