BREAKING NEWS: The ILLINOIS Supreme Court has sided with "no cash bail" and the so called SAFE-T Act. A 5-2 decision along party lines.

In a 5-2 ruling, with Republican justices dissenting, the state's highest court found that the elimination of cash bail is constitutional and will take effect statewide beginning Sept. 18, overturning a lower court ruling that had put that implementation on hold and handing Gov. J.B. Pritzker a majo...

Cook County Democrat Sheriff is calling for an end to the 2-Day furlough policy that became law in January thanks to the Illinois Legislature. The Sheriff has noted 129 "rearrests" since the policy was put into place including 29 gun related crimes. According to the Chicago Sun Times: "Other cases involved acts of violence, including an armed robbery, a kidnapping, a carjacking, firing a gun at a car at a gas station and pointing a gun at an off-duty Chicago cop, who fired back and struck someone in the gunman’s car."

The sheriff points to 129 rearrests of people on “essential movement” furloughs since the reform took effect Jan. 1, 2022. The public defender’s office says the laws rightly lets people go to the doctor, do laundry and shop.

Prosecutors say a Chicago man burglarized a work crew's van while wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet for two pending burglary cases. And, incredibly, the arrest occurred about two hours after he left the police station on a recognizance bond after a concealed carry holder held him at gunpoint...

DuPage Sheriff calls out politicians on gun law.

Statement from DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick
Today a press conference was held by Congressman Sean Casten. He and his colleagues were there to admonish and berate me, your DuPage County Sheriff, for questioning their authority on a very poorly written piece of legislation that has no clear direction on who will be enforcing new gun laws.
On 1/16/23, I was contacted by Congressman Casten and was told that if I would go to the door of a house filled with Molotov cocktails, then I should be fine going to people’s doors for these new gun laws. That reinforced my belief that we were going to be saddled with a manpower challenge that would be insurmountable, to say the least.
I was actually very happy to hear Congressman Casten now affirm that there will be no door-to-door compliance checks required by law enforcement concerning these new laws. It was also demanded that I enforce gun sale laws at gun shops, but we do not have any gun shops in unincorporated DuPage County.
It was very disheartening to hear an elected official claim we would not enforce laws surrounding a domestic incident. When elected officials are blatantly untruthful, maybe they are the ones who should consider resignation. I have repeated time and again that we will enforce any gun laws when it is tied to any other criminal activity. I have stressed domestic violence as being a top priority so maybe a retraction would be proper for that false allegation.
There is absolutely nothing that we are doing or not doing that would make a mass shooting more accessible in DuPage County. In fact, I have asked on multiple occasions to increase penalties on all existing gun crimes, but it does not appear that they want to have that conversation. They seem more concerned with lawful gun owners than people illegally possessing guns. They have backtracked enough that now we have a very small role in most aspects of this legislation.
Just to reiterate for our citizens, it was announced today that law enforcement will not be asked to come to your homes to do gun compliance checks. That is a big win for our law-abiding citizens and for law enforcement. Sorry for the length of this but I felt responsible to respond to the false allegations being made against me. I will continue to do my best to keep all of you safe no matter where the threat comes from.
