We're thinking about mammals today. Specifically shrews. Can you see the tiny shrew in the yellow circle? This photo is from a trail cam set up in a no kill mammal trap at Silver Creek Woods Preserve It was caught on camera on April 10th. Shrews are only 2 - 3 inches in length.

What will you find when you attend BioBlitz and visit the Mammals station at Silver Creek Woods on Sat., June 20th? The free event is 9 am - 1 pm. We are requesting registration so we know how many to expect. More info and register for Friday or Saturday:

Alan (NLI Executive Director) found this gem, a Green Dragon, growing at Silver Creek Woods Preserve when he went there today to do some research to get ready for the BioBlitz to be held here on June 19 and 20. This is an uncommon woodland wildflower and extremely exciting when you see it. What will you find when you go to BioBlitz?

We are getting ready for the Bioblitz on Friday, June 19 and Saturday June 20, 2026. Our new profile pic shows 3 unique features located at Silver Creek Woods Preserve. 1st, we have reason to believe the elusive Star-nosed Mole lives there. See the crazy looking nose? 2nd, there is a paw paw tree growing in the woods, and 3rd, the Mottled Sculpin fish lives in the creek, which is a sign of a healthy stream. We hope to confirm the fish and mole during the bioblitz.
