When we created the Secondary Success and Beyond Scholarship Fund, we weren't just raising money, we were investing in people like Ben.

As the first-ever recipient of the SSAB Scholarship, Ben represents exactly what this fund was created to support: students who are committed to their education, their future, and giving back to their community.

Today, we're proud to introduce the first installment of The Faces of Persistence, a series highlighting the remarkable students behind our scholarship fund and the journeys they're creating.

Meet Ben, our inaugural Secondary Success and Beyond Scholarship recipient! 🎉

Ben is pursuing a degree in Fire Science while maintaining a 4.0 GPA, serving as a firefighter, coaching wrestling, and mentoring youth in our community.

His dedication to service, leadership, and academic excellence embodies the mission of our scholarship: to invest in students who are committed to creating brighter futures for themselves and those around them.

Congratulations to our 2026 Secondary Success and Beyond Scholarship recipient, Ben! 🎉

Tonight, we had the privilege of celebrating Ben alongside hundreds of other outstanding students at the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois Scholarship Awards Ceremony.

Ben is pursuing his education in Fire Science with the goal of serving our community as a firefighter with the Rockford Fire Department. Beyond his academic achievements, he is a dedicated mentor and coach who invests his time and energy into supporting the next generation. His commitment to service, leadership, and community impact embodies the values our scholarship was created to recognize.

We are honored to support Ben on his educational journey and look forward to seeing the difference he will continue to make in our community.

Thank you to the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois for your partnership in administering the Secondary Success and Beyond Scholarship and for helping make opportunities like this possible for local students.

Tonight marked a powerful milestone for Secondary Success and Beyond as we gathered to select the recipient of our inaugural scholarship award.

We are incredibly grateful to the dedicated volunteer selection committee and the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois for helping make this opportunity possible for local students.

Reading through the applications was truly inspiring—our community is filled with driven, passionate, and resilient young leaders. Truthfully, the only thing that would have made tonight even better is having the funding to support more than one student. There were several incredibly deserving applicants.
