Ring in the 2026 with a walk or bike ride along the ocean!
Our friends at Sundance Outdoor Adventure Society have once again invited us to join them in kicking off the New Year with an easy scenic bike ride or a fun walk along the spectacular dunes and Atlantic Ocean here in Rockaway. Friendly, free, and open to all.
DETAILS:
Both bicyclists & walkers start at 11:30 am sharp at Rockaway Ferry Dock, Beach 108th Street and Beach Channel Drive.
The two groups plan to meet up at again E Sushi around 1:45 for optional late lunch.
BIKE RIDE:
Easy intermediate-level route of approximately 19 miles over 2 plus hours includes Rockaway Beach, Breezy Point, Neponsit, and Belle Harbor as well as Gateway National Recreation Area’s Fort Tilden and Jacob Riis Park, now quiet and peaceful during the winter. We will also follow the 5.5-mile long boardwalk. Please wear a helmet!
EASY WALK: We plan a gentle 5.5-mile walk on the paved boardwalk as we stay close to the ocean and look for nesting terns and plovers amongst the surfers and dog-walkers. If we’re lucky, we may even spot some seals, dolphins, and humpback whales! Binoculars provided!
LATE LUNCH: Walkers and cyclists plan to meet at E Sushi, 215 Beach 116th Street in Belle Harbor for lunch and drinks at 1:45 pm (vegetarian options).
SUNDANCE: is NYC’s Gay outdoors club offering year-round non-competitive hikes, urban nature and history walks, camping, backpacking, ski trips, travel adventures, bike rides and tours, museum visits, social events, boating/canoeing, and much more for all skill levels and ages. Join us for some fun, new friends, and great healthy experiences in 2026! Free membership and info at: http://www.SundanceOutdoor.org
