We are deeply honored and humbled to have been selected as the recipient of the Outstanding Nonprofit Award from the Rock Island Community Foundation. The award was presented yesterday at the Quad City Botanical Center, and we are incredibly grateful for this recognition.

While our name may be on the award, this achievement belongs to an entire community.

The Third Place QC exists because of the people who believe in our mission. It belongs to the volunteers who generously give their time, the donors who share their resources, the funders who invest in our vision, the community partners who walk alongside us, and the guests who trust us to be part of their journey.

Together, you have helped create a welcoming, compassionate space where neighbors can find connection, support, dignity, and hope.

Every cup of coffee shared, every conversation had, every donation given, and every act of kindness contributes to making The Third Place QC what it is today.

Some mornings at The Third Place look like a bakery exploded in the best possible way! 🍩🍪

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we started the day with tables overflowing with donated pastries, baked goods, and fresh fruit. It was a beautiful sight… for about an hour and a half. 😆

The funny part? By 9:30 AM, nearly every sweet treat had disappeared! Our guests definitely knew how to make short work of those delicious donations.

We are so grateful for everyone who contributes food, snacks, and other items that help make our space welcoming and nourishing!

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

In just a few short months, our community has embraced The Third Place QC in ways we never could have imagined. We had a simple idea: our community deserved a safe, welcoming place where people can connect, rest, access resources, and experience belonging.

Today, we regularly serve 120+ guests each day. We've learned that our community has deep needs and that relationships matter. We believe our impact extends far beyond the walls of our current space; we also support both unhoused and housed neighbors.

Because of our substantial growth, WE ARE ACTIVELY SEARCHING for a bigger space in Rock Island.

Our hope is to remain close to the network of community partners, service providers, healthcare organizations, and nonprofits that have become part of an important system of care for our guests. Being near these partners allows us to connect people to housing, healthcare, employment resources, and other support more effectively.

Finding the right location is challenging. Existing ordinances create barriers that significantly limit the number of properties available for a community-centered gathering space like ours.

So, we're asking for YOUR HELP.

Do you know of a building, storefront, former office, community facility, or underutilized property in Rock Island that could be a good fit? Do you have a connection to a property owner who might be willing to have a conversation? Do you know of spaces that deserve a second life serving the community?

We are looking for a space that is approximately 7,000 sq ft., has space for an outdoor patio and is located in or around downtown Rock Island.

We believe Rock Island is stronger when neighbors help neighbors. The Third Place QC was built by the community, and we believe the next chapter will be too.

Today, our guests were surprised with delicious sandwiches delivered by the wonderful women from argrowshouse. These acts go far beyond a meal since they remind our guests that they are seen, valued, and cared for by the community around them.

One of the most important parts of serving our community is nonprofits supporting one another. When organizations come together, share resources, and build relationships, we can create an even greater impact for those who need it most.

We were also grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the services Argrow's House provides and to explore ways we can collaborate in the future. Strong partnerships help strengthen our entire community, and we are thankful to work alongside others who share the same heart for helping people.

This is our little donation center 💙

It may look small, but the impact it has made in our community is huge. In just our first seven months of operations at The Third Place, we have distributed 11,212 pieces of clothing to individuals experiencing hardship and homelessness.

Our volunteers do an amazing job assisting our guests with securing the items they need, as well as helping donors bring items into our space. 💙

But with the high traffic of people coming through The Third Place every day, we often run very low — or completely out — of essential items that help preserve comfort, safety, and dignity for our guests.

We are often asked what our current needs are, so here is our updated needs list:
• Tents
• Tarps
• Sleeping bags
• Snacks
• Men’s underwear (boxers preferred)
• Women’s underwear (small and medium)
• Razors
• Shaving cream

Every donation, big or small, makes a direct impact on someone in our community. Thank you for continuing to support our mission and care for our neighbors in need.

What an amazing initiative by Justin Shepard and his family! 💙

Justin has always been a wonderful support to The Third Place QC, but this year he decided to make his birthday even more meaningful. Instead of asking for presents, Justin asked his friends and loved ones to donate the money they would normally spend on gifts to help support the needs of our space.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who contributed, Justin was able to purchase a brand new microwave and toaster oven for our guests to use at The Third Place QC. These may seem like simple items, but they make a huge difference in helping create a welcoming, comfortable, and dignified environment for the people we serve every day.

We are so proud of the community that has been built through this amazing place. From our guests, to visitors, volunteers, and donors: YOU are part of the success of The Third Place. Your support, kindness, and presence continue to make this space feel like home for so many people.

We especially want to highlight our incredible talent show contestants. Every single one of them is a winner in our eyes. Their confidence, talents, courage, and effort made the day truly unforgettable and so special for everyone who attended.
