The Davenport NAACP proudly celebrates Bishop Dr. Jimmie R. Horton, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Freedom Fund Banquet. ✊🏾✨

Bishop Horton is the founder and pastor of Gospel Mission Temple Full Gospel Church of Davenport, where he has faithfully served as pastor for over 40 years.

📖 A graduate of Jackson State University, Bishop Horton holds both a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling. He taught in the Davenport Community Schools for 25 years before becoming a full-time pastor.

His impact extends beyond the pulpit:
✔️ Former Director of Religious Affairs for the NAACP
✔️ Longtime board member of Churches United
✔️ Published author of the bestselling book Live the Unlimited Life

ELECTION DAY :As we brace on ELECTION DAY , for another Presidential Election, we are reminded of the history of generations of oppressed people who weren’t considered citizens of this country. Those who fought with silent screams, hot tears and innocent blood to share in the right to run for office and vote! Many of which, fought wars in defense of this country, only to be lynched for donning a USA MILITARY Uniform, and couldn’t enjoy the freedom and liberty they fought for other country’s citizens to enjoy!

Today I dedicate this post to my Ancestors, who’s commitment to GOD, COUNTRY and LEGACY, was paved in discrimination, dishonor, brutality, beatings, lynchings, rapes, castrations, illegal incarcerations, and mutilations, your enduring strength in the face of injustice motivates me to keep going and to VOTE! I love you all more than my words can articulate, and I’ll never let your saga for freedom to be forgotten!

Some of y’all are just to spiritually deep for me! Y’all spiritualize everything! Terms like you need to discern the right one to vote for and are you kidding me? Let me say this and be done.

I always try to assess facts as objectively as I can, and I always present my view of the world openly and honestly. But this is not a neutral or nonpartisan post I strongly endorse Kamala Harris for President, and I think the Democrats — despite some flaws — are a better choice than the Republicans at this moment in history.
