Do I need to be from Rock Island? HECK NO—our members span both sides of the river and several counties. Do I need to have a green thumb? Absolutely not—the question is, do you want to develop one? We gather to learn and share and have members who are masters and those that are totally new to the world of gardening.

Every September, I watch perfectly well-meaning folks get out their garden shears and absolutely sabotage their own yards. They think they’re just 'tidying up' for the winter. What they’re actually doing is chopping off thousands of spring blooms before they even have a chance to open. Take a close look at your branches right now and you'll see exactly what I mean. The tiny buds are already there, just waiting out the cold. If you want a garden full of color next year, the best thing you can do for a lot of these plants right now is absolutely nothing. I’ve put together a list of the most common victims of the autumn tidy-up. Do yourself a favor, put the pruners in the shed, and go make a cup of tea instead. The garden will sort itself out.

A huge thank you to Heather from Gnoman's for hosting us - your passion for gardening and breeding daylilies shines through! (And your grandmother's rhubarb will live on through us!)
