🎓ThePlace2B is hosting a College Readiness Workshop to make the college application and financial aid process feel a lot less overwhelming. Whether you’re just starting to explore college or ready to apply, you’ll leave with practical next steps.

What we’ll cover:
✅ FAFSA & financial aid: create your FSA ID and get started on the FAFSA (laptops available, or bring your own)
✅ College applications: learn how to use the Common App and what you’ll need
✅ Scholarship prep: tips for telling your story, plus a take-home list of scholarships to explore
✅ Connect with Black and Latino college alumni and professionals who’ve been through it and can share advice and mentorship

🗣️ The presentation will be offered in English and Spanish.

⚾️ Take me out to the ball game! 🎶

Our students had a great time spending an evening at Modern Woodmen Park for the St. Ambrose University vs. Black Hawk College baseball game! ⚾️

From watching the game and getting some fun swag to taking a spin on the Ferris wheel 🎡, our students made the most of the night.

We’re always excited to give our students opportunities to get out, try new things, and enjoy everything our community has to offer!

Last night, our students had a blast learning, moving, and grooving with Augustana College - Illinois leadership students during Global Grooves!

The experience focused on cultural dance and rhythm, giving our students a fun opportunity to learn about different cultures while getting up and moving. There were plenty of laughs, great energy, and some impressive dance moves!

A huge thank you to the Augustana College students for bringing the fun to ThePlace2B!

Our students recently got the chance to take part in a shark dissection at the Moline Public Library, Moline, IL! They got an up-close look at shark anatomy, learned something new, and maybe discovered that dissecting a shark isn’t for everyone.

As you can tell, some enjoyed the experience a little more than others! 😆

This weekend, members of our Student Advisory Council got to attend YWCA Quad Cities Bright Lights & Boogie Nights fundraiser.

Two of our students, Tatiana and Jeremiah, took the stage to share their personal experiences and talk about the impact ThePlace2B has had on their lives.

Getting up in front of a room full of people and sharing your story takes courage, and they both did an incredible job! We are so proud of Tatiana and Jeremiah for using their voices and representing ThePlace2B.

YWCA Quad Cities is hosting a Diaper Drive this week to help meet the growing need in our community! If you're able to, please consider donating diapers. They even accept open packages of diapers, or you can make a monetary donation online. Every donations makes an impact right here in your community! 💙

🍼 TOMORROW, WE’RE KICKING OFF SOMETHING IMPORTANT. 🧡

National Diaper Need Awareness Week starts tomorrow (Sept. 14), and we’re shining a light on a need that impacts families right here in our community.

In just the MONTH of August, the YWCA distributed more than 68,000 diapers to local families. 😳🍼

And the need isn’t slowing down.

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing more about the need for diapers, the impact it has on families, and how YOU can help us keep our diaper bank stocked.

Our Empowerment Center will be closed next week, but we will be providing DIAPER DISTRIBUTION ONLY at our main facility:

📍 YWCA Quad Cities
513 17th St., Rock Island

Diaper Distribution Hours:
Monday, Sept. 14: 8 AM–12 PM
Tuesday, Sept. 15: 8 AM–4 PM
Thursday, Sept. 17: 8 AM–4 PM
Friday, Sept. 18: 8 AM–4 PM

Please note: diaper distribution will be the only Empowerment Center service available during these times.

🐴 Our Girls Club got to try something a little different, and they absolutely LOVED it!

A huge thank-you to New Kingdom Trailriders for recently welcoming our Girls Club and giving our girls the chance to experience something new, make memories, and spend time together.

There were plenty of smiles, lots of laughter, and maybe a few new horse-loving fans by the end of the day!

We’re so grateful for community partners who create opportunities for our youth to explore, grow, and simply have fun. Thank you, New Kingdom Trailriders, for making the day so special! 💙

We’re incredibly proud to congratulate 12 of our YWCA FC students who made their own high school soccer teams! 👏

When we started our soccer club, one of our biggest goals was to give our students the confidence, skills, and encouragement to step onto the field and try out for their school teams.

And now, we’re seeing that goal come full circle.

12 of our students will be representing Rock Island High School, Moline High School, and United Township High School this season. We couldn’t be more excited to cheer them on!

Way to go, YWCA FC! Keep working hard, believing in yourselves, and chasing those goals. We’ll be cheering from the sidelines! ⚽
