Few things carry more quiet shame than not being able to provide something as basic as diapers for your child. Food insecurity is at least widely recognized — people know it exists, and they know to point struggling families toward a food pantry. Diaper need doesn't get that same recognition. Caregivers facing it often feel like they're the only ones, isolated by a problem most people don't even know has a name.
That's what makes Diaper Need Awareness Week matter. Simply talking about diaper need chips away at the shame surrounding it. And showing caregivers where they can actually get diapers does something even more powerful: it restores their dignity.
