Keep Rock Island Beautiful plans and supports programs of education, litter control, recycling activities, and beautification to help build and sustain a vibrant community. Our Programs
Education:
It is our mission to support and educate citizens, businesses, and schools in beautifying, cleaning and improving their own environment. March through October, the “Keeping Rock Island Beautiful Award”
is given to businesses which go above and beyond to keep their property litter free. Annually, schools in Rock Island are evaluated for a litter free environment. We provide recycle containers for your event. Call Carolyn Fuller to reserve them. Just pick them up and return them to our office when you are finished. 309-786-1334
Adopt-A-Highway:
KRIB sponsors 32 organized groups containing 1302 volunteers who have adopted and regularly clean 33 miles of adopted streets in Rock Island. You might have noticed the signs scattered here and there on the avenues and streets of Rock Island. This is the Adopt-A-Highway program in action. Our volunteers are committed to keeping the community clean. Together these volunteers picked up 48,491 pounds of trash in 2010. Are you interested in forming a group to “Adopt -A-Highway”? An organization, individual, or group of family or friends wishing to become part of the Adopt-A-Highway Program will need to do the following:
- Fill out an Adopt-A-Highway application. The completed application should be signed and returned to Keep Rock Island Beautiful, 201 15th Street, Rock Island, IL 61201.
- The agreement will then be referred to the City Council who will authorize the City Manager to sign the agreement.
- The Adopt-A-Highway signs will then be installed. The signs will indicate the name of the organization and the length in miles adopted.
- Keep Rock Island Beautiful will supply safety vests and bags.
- Each volunteer group is responsible for a section of highway and agrees to remove litter a minimum of four times per year for a minimum of two years. Adopt-An-Event Program:
