Human trafficking doesn’t usually start with abduction.
It starts with access.

Traffickers actively target children through:
• Social media
• Online gaming
• Messaging apps
• Livestreams

When online activity is unmonitored, kids are more vulnerable to grooming, manipulation, and coercion — often long before any in-person contact occurs.

According to survivor data, many children first encounter traffickers online, through what looks like friendship or attention.

Awareness is prevention.
Supervision is protection.
Conversation saves lives.

Learn the signs. Talk to your kids. Share this with another parent.

Orange on Tuesdays in February!🧡

🎗🔶February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month🔶🎗

Teen dating violence looks different than adult abuse. Teens often date people they go to school with and share the same friend groups, which makes it harder to get distance or feel safe. They have less independence and fewer legal options, and many can’t seek protections without a parent or guardian—especially difficult if they’re afraid to speak up. Add social pressure to be in a relationship or protect their reputation, and many teens stay silent. That’s why it’s critical to give teens safe spaces, the language to talk about abuse, and a clear message: they deserve respect, and their voice matters.

At Family Resources, we are here for you. 🎗

Trafficking thrives in silence, but healing starts when someone says, “I believe you.”

Human trafficking happens locally, often begins with coercion, and survivors deserve compassion, not questions about why they stayed.

We believe you.💙 And support exists right here in our community and help is available.

🛑Youth are especially vulnerable to human trafficking.🛑

In Iowa, minors have been identified as trafficking victims, often through coercion before force ever appears.

🎗 In FY24, the Iowa Attorney General’s Office served 587 survivors of human trafficking statewide | 24 were adolescents | 97 were children

💙We believe you. Help is available, and you deserve support without judgment.

🎗💙The Iowa Network Against Human Trafficking and Slavery, along with Iowa state legislators, recognized and honored our Braking Traffik Advocate, Sara K., with an Outstanding Anti-Trafficking Service Award in Des Moines today.

The award ceremony followed a public signing of the proclamation by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds designating January 2026 as Slavery and Human Trafficking Month at the Rotunda of the State Capitol Building.

Sara K. is a human traffic survivor and advocate at Braking Traffik, a program of Family Resources. She has extensive experience supporting at-risk youth and serves on the Network Against Human Trafficking board.
She now focuses on helping incarcerated survivors access resources and long-term restoration, while educating communities and youth on trafficking prevention.

She is pictured with former Iowa Senator Maggie Tinsman. After leaving the legislature, Maggie founded Braking Traffik, a program of Family Resources, dedicated to eradicating s*x trafficking in Iowa and Illinois.
