We currently operate three locations, from which residents can freely pick fresh fruits & vegetables. The mission of Broadway’s ministry is to:
• Provide community-wide access to fresh produce {SHARING}. The Rock Island Urban Farm will work with its community partners in providing a wide variety of free-to-pick produce to the entire Rock Island Community at the gardens and fields it operates,
•
Expand community-based sustainable food production {CONNECTING}. The Rock Island Urban Farm will work with its community partners to encourage Rock Island residents to grow their own healthful produce at home by personal mentoring, providing summary literature, loaning tools or equipment and providing access to seed and seedlings.
• Grow produce sustainably {CONTINUING}. The Rock Island Urban Farm will work with its community partners in growing holistically, mostly heirloom varieties of local fruits and vegetables.
• Improve effectiveness of Rock Island Urban Farm Operations in accomplishing its Mission through research {LEARNING}. The Rock Island Urban Farm will work with its community partners in continuous research into urban agricultural methods used by local community growers, other potential techniques and tools, the improvement and reach of sustainable food production in the community, and the general productivity of its fields and those of its partners. The Rock Island Urban Farm will work with its community partners in sharing the results of any research with participant growers and others.
