URGENT COMMUNITY ALERT: "Nitazenes" Found in Aiken County

A highly lethal class of synthetic opioids, Nitazene has emerged within the illicit drug supply in our region. This is actively impacting the Aiken County area. Local health alerts indicate that this substance is far more dangerous than fentanyl.

What You Must Know:

Because nitazenes are intensely potent, an overdose can happen in seconds to minutes.

It is Up to 40x Stronger Than Fentanyl: Nitazenes were developed in the 1950s but banned from medical use because they are too toxic. A microscopic speck can cause a fatal overdose.

It Is Hiding in Common Street Drugs: You cannot see, smell, or taste it. It is being mixed into fake prescription pills (counterfeit Xanax, Percocet, Adderall), as well as local supplies of he**in, co***ne, and methamphetamine.

Standard Fentanyl Test Strips Do NOT Detect It: Because it has a completely different chemical structure than fentanyl, traditional fentanyl test strips will miss it entirely, giving a false sense of security.

If you suspect an overdose administer Narcan and call 911 immediately!

“My names Brian I started off when I was 14 and a friend explained to me how I could get high off of my school prescription, then I started taking what I was told was real pills and I had no better knowledge to know that they was just fentanyl, but when I did find out that didn’t stop me until the one thing everyone said would happen. Came true. I went to jail, while I was locked up I realized that drugs and sin will always lead you to 2 things. In jail or in hell. From that moment on after 6 years of being high all the time. I knew I had to change for the better”

Remembering a really special human this week 💜 Someone that touched the lives of many, and truly had the kindest heart.
Joseph Alan Miller “JoJo” passed away July 17, 2022 from an unexpected overdose from Fentanyl. He was 31 years old and is the father of 4 beautiful children still on this earth.

This week, we remember the lives taken far too soon by the fentanyl epidemic. Behind every life lost is a person who was loved, who mattered, and who left an impact on the people around them.

They were sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, siblings, partners, and friends. Their absence is still felt, their names are still spoken, and they are still deeply missed.

This week, we remember them. 💜

“November 2022 I’d been clean for 9 months living in New York, I came home and temptation was waiting on me I overdosed in my old neighborhood and was found in the middle of the road, it took several Narcans but they worked, I woke up in the hospital… Narcan has worked on me multiple times, recovery is possible though I’ve graduated a one year program and gotten my life back im 2 years 2 months clean” 🤘🏻

Margo’s Story: Recovery, Motherhood, and a Second Chance 💟☮️✝️

“It was Oct 2024.. I bit off more than I could chew. Next thing I know, I’m waking up feeling worse than I’ve ever felt.

I overdosed. Luckily, Narcan was there. If I hadn’t been revived. There wouldn’t be a Gabriel. I wouldn’t have had the chance to get sober.

Even though I didn’t get sober right away, it allowed me the chance to realize how beautiful life was because a few months later, I found out I was pregnant. I turned it around for G.

Narcan saved my life. I’ve been scared to recover loudly because of what others would think, but I’m speaking out because if I don’t, I can’t expect others.”
