Just as a seed planted in summer can bloom in the seasons ahead, the learning educators pursue today can grow into meaningful experiences for students tomorrow.

Summer professional development is a time to explore new ideas, strengthen skills, build connections, and discover fresh inspiration. Every workshop attended, book read, conversation shared, and creative risk taken has the potential to shape the school year ahead.

What seeds are you planting this summer?

Last week, arts education leaders from across South Carolina came together for a powerful two-day Summit as part of the Joint Arts Administrators Institute.

From meaningful conversations to shared challenges and creative problem-solving, this time together reminded us just how strong our community is—and how much stronger we become when we connect.

There was plenty of learning, a lot of laughter, and a shared commitment to advancing arts education across our state. 🎭✨

We’re leaving inspired, energized, and grateful for this incredible network of leaders who continue to champion the arts every day.

This past weekend, the PSAE Board of Directors came together for a productive and inspiring retreat—focused on vision, strategy, and the continued growth of arts education across South Carolina.

Through thoughtful conversations, collaborative planning, and a shared commitment to our mission, board members explored ways to strengthen programs, expand impact, and better support educators in every corner of our state.

From big-picture strategic planning to meaningful moments of connection, the retreat was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when passionate leaders come together with a common purpose.

We’re excited for what’s ahead—and grateful for the dedicated individuals who help lead this work forward every day. 🎨

🎨✍️ Arts Chat Series: New Blog Alert!

April is National Poetry Month, and we’re celebrating with a powerful fusion of art and words!

“Visual & Verse: Giving Voice to the Visual Arts” by poet, teacher, and PSAE board member Melody Powell explores the beauty of ekphrastic poetry—writing inspired by visual art. In this engaging post, Powell reflects on her own creative process, crafting poetry in response to another artist’s original work.

But it doesn’t stop there—this blog is full of flexible, classroom-ready ideas for:
✨ Arts integration projects
✨ Cross-department collaborations
✨ Creative writing inspired by visual analysis

Whether you're an ELA teacher, visual arts educator, or part of a collaborative team, this is a fresh and meaningful way to bring creativity into your teaching.
